Master's Program in Buddhist Studies of Sutra and Ta**ra
at Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa

The most extensive Tibetan Buddhist study program in the West based on the Nalanda tradition, encompassing the Buddhist science of the mind, philosophy and practice.

"The Buddha counselled his followers to be sceptical, to critically examine what he told them, not to accept what he said merely in good faith. Nagarjuna, Aryadeva, Buddhapalita, Chandrakirti and Shantideva took this advice to heart. They made an effort to investigate and understand reality" His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Curriculum:
Students will study over 6 years five principal subjects along with receiving teachings and oral transmission of the main texts and their principal commentaries from fully qualified teachers as well as teachings, initiation, transmissions of supplementary texts and topic.

Ancient Indian texts contain a thorough knowledge of our emotions. Once the source of an emotional problem is understood, it’s much easier to solve it. This is one of the reasons why knowledge from the Nalanda tradition is relevant in today’s world.

The students will be led to learn on the basis of formal classes with teachers explaining the texts and debate sessions in a Western form using logic.
Within the program students will become proficient in meditation practices combining analysis and concentration.
Students will engage in activities integrating the cognitive learning with ethics and service learning.

Literary and colloquial Tibetan language classes Support for further study of texts in their original language (optional)
