Euwonder

Euwonder Jean Monnet Project - University of Pisa, coordinated by Professor Elettra Stradella A Dissemination Board will care for wide spreading of EUWONDER initiatives.

European Women’s Law and Gender action (EUWONDER) addresses the topic of gender equality within the European legal order. It identifies relevant principles, regulations, and good practices; analyses their impact on both the E.U. and MS in the fields of political representation, gender violence and reproductive rights, welfare and markets; it discusses the perspectives of the integration of gender

analysis at all levels of policies and regulation, with a commitment to equality and anti-discrimination, trying to promote intersectionality as a cross-cutting vision in European Law and policies (within the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025). EUWONDER aims at achieving innovative teaching, training practices and policy recommendations grounded on scientific research, enhancing the network on European Law and Gender created by the ELaN Module (JMO Action). The Chair covers two main courses, both held over the three-year period, and enhanced by seminars held by renowed experts members of the EUWONDER Staff, open also to PhD students and involving them as discussants. It will also cover a module of a course directed to undergraduate students of all Departments (with a special attention to STEM students), a training activity aimed at high school teachers; a course aimed at University of Pisa civil servants that will be converted in a “online package” for Italian Universities; an international workshop and a final conference. The Chair holder, Elettra Stradella, was coordinator of JMO Module ELaN (2019-2022) and in charge of the first course on European Law and Gender held at the University of Pisa. She has been President of the CUG (Equal Opportunities Committee) of the University of Pisa since 2017 to 2021, and in 2021-2022 she was Rector’s delegate in the Gender Equality Plan Team of the University of Pisa, that she coordinated.

The Colombian Constitutional Court urges Congress to legislate on surrogacy, by Natalia Rueda, Professor at Externado de Colombia University

The Colombian Constitutional Court in its recent Judgment T-275 of 2022 ruled in a case related to the paternity leave of a single man who concluded a surrogacy contract. It is worth mentioning since the Court adopted a very worrying approach in terms of gender perspective, as well as for language and narratives on pregnant women and their rights.

Thanks to Professor Osella for his interesting presentation, on the occasion of the first Euwonder seminar, on February 24 at Università di Pisa

28/02/2023

On February 24, the first EUWONDER seminar took place.

Professor Osella compared the Colombian and Italian case laws as far as gender identity issues are concerned.

The analysis focused on the Colombian Constitutional Court decision T-033/22, in which the existence of a third gender has been recognized by the Court.

In contrast, Professor Osella analyzed the Italian Constitutional Court decisions, which seemed to be far from the recent Colombian results.

We would like to thank Professor Osella for his interesting presentation and look forward to the next Euwonder seminar, which will be held by Professor Malagodi, on March 30, at 2 p.m. in Palazzo della Sapienza (Università di Pisa), Aula V.
