This week in the laboratory, we focused on a special project exploring the use of plants in nature. Unlike modern times with supermarkets, people in the past relied on plants for their medicines and remedies, especially for skin conditions. Our project centered on the dandelion, a versatile plant with many uses.We learned how to properly harvest dandelions and discovered the different ways to utilize various parts of the plant. The leaves can be used in salads or made into pesto, while the flower heads and petals are edible. The roots can be cooked like carrots or used to make a coffee suitable for children.Dandelions offer several health benefits. They are rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals like iron, calcium, and potassium. Dandelions are known to support liver health and aid in digestion. They also have antioxidant properties and can help reduce inflammation.This project helped us appreciate how plants in nature can be valuable resources for both nutrition and health.
