📢 Exciting news from the STITCH Project!

We are proud to announce that Prof. Dominique Persano Adorno, from the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the University of Palermo (Italy) and Coordinator of the Erasmus+ project STITCH – Sustainability Through Innovation, Training, Creativity & STEAM Horizons, has been invited as a speaker at the International Erasmus+ Symposium “Cultural Passport”, organized within the Erasmus+ Programme.

During the symposium, Prof. Persano Adorno will present STITCH under the theme “Interdisciplinarity and Creativity in Teaching”, highlighting how sustainability, creativity, innovation, and STEAM education can be effectively integrated to shape the future of European education. Her contribution, entitled “Stitching the Future: Creativity, Sustainability and STEAM in European Education”, is featured in the symposium programme.

We are also delighted to share that Prof. Persano Adorno has been invited to serve as the Scientific Referent for the Symposium Anthology, contributing her expertise to ensuring the scientific quality and dissemination of the event’s outcomes.

This recognition further strengthens STITCH’s commitment to fostering international collaboration, educational innovation, and sustainable development across Europe.

The symposium will start at 13 and it will finish at 15:30 CET time.

🤖👗 How can Artificial Intelligence help build a more sustainable fashion industry?

On 28 May, the STITCH project hosted its 4th international webinar, *"Stitching the Future: AI and Digital Tools as Enablers of Sustainable Fashion"*, as part of the AI+ Conference in Norway.

Participants explored how AI and digital technologies are already transforming the fashion and textile sector by reducing waste, supporting circular business models, improving resource management, and promoting more responsible consumption practices.

The webinar featured inspiring contributions from industry experts, including practical examples of AI applications in second-hand fashion, garment identification, pricing systems, and circular economy solutions.

The session also highlighted how teachers and educators can use digital tools and AI to make sustainable fashion education more engaging, creative, and accessible for students.

🌍✨ When FASHION meets PHYSICS, the future begins. ✨👕🔬
On Sunday, May 17th, 2026, during the final day of the STEM Olympics, organized by the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the University of Palermo within the project “STEMpower: navigating towards the careers of the future”, the European Erasmus+ project STITCH – Sustainability Through Innovation, Training, Creativity & STEAM Horizons was presented, demonstrating how science, sustainability, and creativity can come together to shape the world of tomorrow 💚♻️
Led by Prof. Dominique Persano Adorno, scientific coordinator of the project, and Dr. Enza Galati, both from the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the University of Palermo, around 50 students aged 16 to 18 from 8 Sicilian schools, together with their teachers and the UniPA staff, embarked on a fascinating journey into the heart of scientific research applied to sustainable fashion and innovative materials. The initiative also featured the participation of Prof. Nicola Pizzolato, Principal of ICS Maredolce in Palermo, an associated partner school of the STITCH project, coordinated by the University of Palermo.
Students discovered how Physics can transform a simple fabric into an intelligent technology capable of improving quality of life and protecting our planet, exploring:
✨ biodegradable fibers obtained from agricultural waste and natural materials
✨ smart textiles capable of regulating temperature and humidity
✨ self-cleaning materials inspired by the Lotus effect
✨ radiation-shielding textiles against UV rays and X-rays
✨ nanotechnologies applied to sustainable and circular fashion
The younger generations demonstrated strong interest, curiosity, critical thinking, and the desire to imagine a more responsible future, where research, technology, and creativity can truly make a difference 🌱✨

How can schools help younger generations rethink fashion, consumption and sustainability? 🌱👕♻️

Last Friday, FICUS ETS carried out an educational workshop with middle school students in Altavilla Milicia as part of the STITCH – Sustainability Through Innovation, Training, Creativity & STEAM Horizons project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme.

During the activity, students explored the environmental and social impact of the fast fashion industry, discussing topics such as textile waste, overproduction, pollution, overconsumption and the importance of adopting more conscious and sustainable lifestyles.

Using a participatory and hands-on approach inspired by STEAM education and non-formal learning methodologies, participants worked in teams to transform recycled materials and unused textiles into creative new fashion items and accessories. Through the workshop, students experienced how sustainability, creativity and innovation can be combined in practical learning activities.

The activity also encouraged reflection on circular economy principles, reuse practices and responsible consumption habits, helping students understand how everyday choices can contribute to reducing environmental impact.

To conclude the experience, students took part in a swap party, exchanging clothes and accessories in a fun and collaborative environment focused on sharing, reuse and giving garments a second life 💚

The workshop represented an important opportunity to connect sustainability education with creativity, teamwork and active participation, showing how schools and European cooperation projects can empower young people to become more aware and responsible citizens.
