"Molti sono a conoscenza dei recenti sviluppi riguardanti la FOI che potrebbero aver causato confusione e preoccupazione. Questa dichiarazione mira a chiarire la situazione attuale.

This information is provided at the request of Cressida Pryor for members who may not be aware of the FOI split after the passing of co-founder Olivia Robertson in 2013. Cressida is the FOI's current Steward and Olivia Robertson's chosen successor. It is always an individual member's choice with whom they associate and the FOI Homepage respects each member's autonomy.


The following groups are not affiliated with the Fellowship of Isis Foundation Center: "Fellowship of Isis Central", the "Star of Tara", the "Archpriesthood Union Triad" (APU), the "FOI Union Triad", the "Athena Council", and the "Circle of Isis." This entity also publishes under the name of "Isian News", without permission of the current FOI copyright holders.

"I am now lead representative (Steward) of the FOI having been asked by Olivia Robertson, the last original founder, to succeed her shortly before she died in 2013. Unfortunately as so often happens when the last founder of an organisation dies, a split develops. Certain members of the FOI have formed a breakaway group* passing themselves off as the original FOI, separating themselves from the Irish Foundation Centre where the FOI has always been based, so are no longer aligned with myself, Olivia's chosen successor, nor members of the Circle of Brigid, the local organising group and other aligned members. As well as my role leading the FOI I am also an Interfaith Minister. With this awareness and background I am keen to encourage the FOI away from its use of entitlement and hierarchical structures and also to bring in a code of ethics and safeguarding structures for children and vulnerable adults who attend our services. The split off group has not been willing to accept the neccessity of these additions and changes. They are also breaking copyright by publishing material and photographs from the Foundation Centre on their website."

"Many are aware of recent developments around the FOI which may have caused confusion and concern. This statement aims to clarify the current situation.

Certain members of the FOI have formed a breakaway group separating themselves from the Irish Foundation Centre so are no longer aligned with myself, Olivia's chosen successor, nor members of the Circle of Brigid.

The Circle of Brigid s first task after Olivia's passing, with my support, has been to formulate a code of ethics1 and a safeguarding policy. These are to ensure all who attend festivals and undertake priesthood training are dealt with fairly and safely. Sadly the need for this became apparent with emergent concerns over past years and awareness of this need from other organisations.

Unfortunately the breakaway advisory board, the Star of Tara ("FOI Central"), have closed their communications and disallowed the FOI's ethics and safeguarding policies to be part of their practice. They have also expressed views that indicate they are no longer loyal to my role as steward, the Circle of Brigid and the values enshrined in the Foundation Centre. They have also infringed copyright law by publishing the founders writing and art work without permission.

We are sad that such a split has occurred but have learned that a previous attempt was made in 2004 to formulate a breakaway FOI in the form of a secret business corporation, named the Fellowship of Isis, in the US. This is a matter of public record. This was not even close to being legal, as societies automatically own their own trademark or service name and logo from day one, even if they do not officially register it. Corporation reports were submitted in 2004, 2006 but not in 2008 and the American Corporation Commission then dissolved it. The Circle of Isis2 appeared around these years and seemed to be a continuation by the same people of this development.

The FOI founders (and now their heirs) are the sole owners of the FOI name, hieroglyphs and Olivia's writings and art work; permission to reproduce her work is through request to the Foundation Centre.

One of those involved with the 2004 corporation is now central to the formation of the Star of Tara ("FOI Central"), together with others who appeared to take the opportunity of Olivia's death to form this faux board.

The Star of Tara, which describes itself as an Advisory Board of the Fellowship of Isis, is no such thing and is not recognised by the Fellowship of Isis. Its members are infringing copyright law if they reproduce any of the founders work without permission.

The original FOI, based at and around the Foundation Centre is still strong, alive and vibrant; is holding festivals regularly and supporting priests and priestesses in their valuable work and also training new members for the priesthood. This core of the original FOI is here to serve the Goddess in all her aspects for the greater good of humanity and this beautiful planet as the founders originally envisaged.

Cats were believed magickal and sacred in various cultures around the world. In Ancient China, Ii-Shou the god of the gathered crops took the form of a cat to protect the harvest. In Japan the Emperor Ichijo found 5 kittens in his palace during the 10th day of the 5th moon which was an auspicious day and thereafter cats were considered good luck and images were placed in temples, businesses and homes. In Ancient Rome cats were sacred to the Goddess Diana and were seen as guardians and protectors of the home whilst also being a symbol of domestic virtuousness. In Norse mythology the fertility Goddess Freyja’s chariot is drawn by cats and they are believed to be a blessing with respects to procreation and newborns.
Its often speculated that the Priests of Ancient Egypt were the first to domesticate wild cats whom they fed temple scraps to. Images of the cat in Ancient Egypt can be traced as far back as 2600BCE which shows the longevity of their interaction with humans. Cats were mummified and placed in tombs which showed they were greatly loved and valued by their owners who would also shave their eyebrows in an act of deep mourning. Cats were so revered in Ancient Egypt that harming a cat was a crime punishable by death.
The Egyptian Goddess Bast was originally a lion headed goddess but her image eventually morphed into a cat headed goddess due to the sacredness the Ancient Egyptians held them in. Bast was the daughter of the sun god Ra and the daughter of mistress of magick, Isis and one of Bast’s titles was “Rage of the Eye of Ra” and Bast’s name itself means soul of Isis – Ba-En-Auset. Some myths describe her as the daughter of the God of the Underworld, Osiris instead of Ra and thus her role also includes Mistress of the Dead.
Bast’s symbols are the sistrum (a dancing rattle) and as such Bast is attributed with dance, music, love, sexuality and pleasure which gives her connections to Hathor. Another symbol was a basket which represents the womb of life and as such Bast is ascribed as the goddess of fertility, motherhood and the underworld. Lastly another sacred symbol to Bast is the aegis, a shield like ornament and with that association Bast is credited with war and protection. Adorned in red, the symbol of motherhood and as a daughter of the sun god Ra, Bast oversaw the growth of the crops in the fields and was a representative of the sun. Being dual natured Bast also was the moon representative of the eye of Horus and her strongly independent nature also classified her as a virgin ie being owned by no man. The magnificent attributes of Bast strongly correlate with the characteristics of a domestic cat and as such shows their archetypal energies were elevated to the status of “God” thousands of years ago and if you have a cat in your life or been around cats, you know they wouldn’t expect any less.

Originally in British folk lore the black cat was viewed as lucky and was seen as a symbol of the dark night as they could shadow their witches at night time rituals. Black cats are traditionally seen as the witches cat because they were viewed as being able to be able to absorb and carry magick. In many cases cats kept company of people like midwives, herbalists, healers and witches in the middle ages due to their independent yet caring nature which made them perfect companions for solitary practitioners. During the 16th and 17th century cats whom were seen as familiars of witches were persecuted along with them and so were exterminated in large numbers which decimated their population and increased the rat population which is believed to have caused the plague to spiral out of control during these times.

As a magickal familiar the cat can give a witch warning of psychic attack or spiritual presences by their alert and observant natures. The cat can be a centred, graceful and calm guide who inspires us to find that within ourselves and it can allow us to channel our magick in a clear and concise way. The feline familiar teaches us to pay attention and be vigilant with respects to the subtle changes around us which we can work with and which will aid our intuition. Through the wisdom of the cat’s traits of hunting we can be inspired to explore in search of new possibilities with a cautious yet playful way. Also the cat’s ability to sit and just be encourages us to do this which allows for self contemplation. The feline familiar has confidence in themselves which is evident in their graceful walk, constant grooming and “I don’t care what you think” attitude which can in turn encourage us to be confident within ourselves, our bodies and our sexuality. When we are ill, a cat familiar instinctively knows this and the developed bond will allow them to show they are here for support and this can inspire the same behaviour in us with others.
A cat is not a pack animal and as such doesn’t need a leader and can live an isolated existence with its owner. Fiercely independent and able to confidently display their various moods, cats don’t seek to be ruled. Their dualistic nature can range from purring loving bundles of fur to predatory hunters who can scratch and bite if threatened which in my opinion is the perfect familiar for those who resonate with those qualities.
A cat has nine lives and it is said that a witch can transform into a cat nine times in their lifetime. The magick of the cat can be used to bewitch, protect, transform, bless, charm and scry and with that said I strongly urge you to connect to these magnificent feline beauties and find what benefits they can bring into your practice.

* Familiar = an animal believed to be possessed of magic powers and has close association with a magickal practitioner.
My current feline familiar- Midnight (maine c**n with domestic oriental mix) who was born on Beltane Eve and is one of the witchiest cats I have had the pleasure to be owned by. The whole time I was writing this article he was constantly by my side rousing me and encouraging me in his own amusing yet magickal way.

Ethics within the Fellowship of Isis

Aussi, à Hermopolis, donne-t-on à la première des Muses les noms d'Isis et de Justice, parce que cette déesse, comme je viens de le dire, est la sagesse même, et qu'elle découvre les vérités divines à ceux qui sont véritablement et avec justice des hiérophores et des hiérostoles. Les premiers sont ceux qui portent dans leur âme, comme dans une corbeille , la doctrine sacrée qui concerne les dieux, purifiée de ces opinions étrangères dont la superstition l'a souillée ; les autres couvrent les statues des dieux de robes en partie noires et obscures, en partie claires et brillantes ; ce qui nous fait entendre que la connaissance que cette doctrine nous donne des dieux est entremêlée de lumières et de ténèbres. Telle est l'allégorie que renferment ces vêtements sacrés, et l'on en revêt les prêtres d'Isis après leur mort, pour montrer qu'ils conservent encore la connaissance de la vérité, et que c'est la seule chose qu'ils emportent avec eux dans l'autre vie.
En effet, Cléa, comme ce n'est ni la barbe ni le manteau qui font les vrais philosophes, ce n'est pas non plus une robe de lin, ni l'usage de se raser, qui font les prêtres d'Isis. Un véritable isiaque est celui qui, après s'être instruit avec exactitude des faits que l'on raconte de ces divinités, les soumet à l'examen de la raison, et cherche, en vrai philosophe, à s'assurer de leur vérité. La plupart des hommes ignorent les raisons des choses même les plus simples, les plus communes, pourquoi, par exemple, les prêtres d'Egypte se font raser et portent des robes de lin ; les uns ne se mettent pas même en peine de le savoir ; d'autres croient que c'est par respect pour les brebis qu'ils ne font pas usage de leur toison et qu'ils s'abstiennent de manger leur chair ; qu'ils se rasent la tête en signe de deuil, et qu'ils portent des robes de lin parce- que la fleur de cette plante est d'une couleur semblable à celle du voile azuré qui environne le monde.
