In memory of our Dear Colleague, Dr. Sara Magrini 🌱🌱🌱
Our network is profoundly saddened by the passing of our dear colleague, Dr. Sara Magrini. Beyond her remarkable professionalism, Sara embodied a true passion for plant conservation that inspired everyone around her. She served as President of RIBES - the Italian Network of Seed Banks - until 2024, headed the Germplasm Bank at the University of Tuscia, and was a dedicated member of the Orchid Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission.
Sara’s tireless commitment and vision have left a lasting mark on our community and on the broader field of conservation. She will be remembered not only for her scientific contributions but also for the warmth, kindness, and encouragement she so often shared.
We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues, and hold her memory with great respect and affection. Her legacy will continue to guide and inspire our work.

Don’t miss our Seed Phenomics workshop at !🌾
Plant phenotyping is the study of plant structure and function, shaped by the dynamic interaction between genetics and the environment. In this workshop, we’ll explore how this can be harnessed to advance genebank practices, seed conservation, and agricultural innovation.
Sponsored by the International Plant Phenotyping Network, this 3-hour session dives into the role of phenomics in seed banks, from emerging technologies to real-world challenges and collaborative solutions.
Dr Kioumars Ghamkhar, Co-Chair Academia Section and Co-Chair Seed and Germplasm Phenotyping at the IPPN will chair and lead discussions with support from Drs Sally Norton and Fiona Hay.
What’s in store:
🔍 Expert presentations from global leaders in phenomics
🧠 Hands-on group discussions to identify challenges and co-design solutions
📌 Sessions to draft roadmap for research collaboration and future action.
Whether you're a researcher, genebank manager, or just have an interest in tech ─ this session will help bridge science and application in powerful new ways.
