The MonViso Institute is a work&play retreat in the community of Ostana, privately owned with an institutional perspective on sustainability.

The MonViso Institute is an envisioned work & play retreat, privately owned with an institutional perspective on sustainability, designed to foster creative work in an inspirational setting. The sustainably designed space will be intimate in scale with stunning views of Monte Viso and the Po Valley in Piemonte, Italy, at the border to France. The planned MonViso Institute will be a small compound

residence designed for flexible use for people who are more productive and creative when they have access to outdoor adventures and wild nature with long open views in the surrounding, to clear your head, activate 'kinetic thinking', or get creative inspiration while engaging in various types of mental work. The planned MonViso Institute will offer both:
- A playful hub for research, education and entrepreneurship in sustainability transformations and social-ecological design -
- The Sustain retreat, a vacation place in an inspirational setting of an Alpine sustainability hub -

The abandoned original houses and land will be carefully transformed into an experiential demonstration project for sustainable development in an alpine environment, together with and for the community of Ostana.

Finally, an end-of-year snow dream as it used to be normal in earlier times - the retour d’est precipitation pattern brought plenty of snow for Christmas. Campus ski-in ski-out delight, and hopefully a solid base for slow late spring melt and downstream water availability.

First snow up at MVI campus on 1500m asl. The temperature outside is -6 degrees Celcius, inside +16. 22 degrees difference through passive design - 4 days after the last person stayed there, with no additional source of heat other than radiation from the cloud covered sun.
