🏛️ DON’T JUST ADMIRE ANCIENT MOSAICS. LEARN HOW TO CREATE ONE.

Discover one of the most refined techniques of ancient mosaic art during our 5-day Roman Micromosaic Group Course in Italy.

Working with very fine glass paste tesserae, you’ll learn how to cut and place tiny pieces with precision, create delicate colour gradations and achieve the extraordinary painterly effects that make Roman micromosaic so fascinating.

The course combines history, observation and hands-on practice, taking you from the origins of this ancient technique to the creation of your own work.

✨ Over five days, you’ll design and create your own Roman micromosaic emblem, approximately 40 × 40 cm, inspired by the ancient emblemata that decorated some of the most refined Roman mosaics.

You’ll work step by step on composition, cutting, setting, details, shading and colour — transforming hundreds of tiny tesserae into a complete artwork to take home with you.

🏛️ The course also includes a visit to the Roman mosaics of the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, one of the most extraordinary examples of ancient Roman mosaic art.

During this 3-day group course, you’ll discover the fascinating world of micromosaic jewellery, learning how to work with Venetian glass threads and murrine to create intricate compositions on jewellery bases.

Step by step, you’ll learn how to prepare your materials, cut and position the micro-tesserae, choose colours and create your composition — all while developing the precision and patience that make this technique so unique.

And by the end of the course?

No previous experience is necessary: the course is designed to guide you through the technique while giving you the freedom to develop your own creativity and personal style.

These images capture some of the previous editions of our Contemporary Mosaic Course: three days of experimentation, colour, materials and creativity, together with other mosaic enthusiasts.

Under the guidance of master Livio Savioli , an artist specialised in the methods of the Mosaic School of Friuli in Spilimbergo, you will learn to look at mosaic with fresh eyes, moving beyond traditional techniques to explore its most contemporary possibilities.

🎨 During the course, we will work with colour, shape and composition, experimenting with marble, Venetian glass smalti and stone materials to create depth, texture and volume.

Each participant will develop and create their own personal contemporary mosaic project, learning to use colour as the true protagonist of the artwork.

🎨 MOSAIC & SCULPTURE — Inspired by Niki de Saint Phalle

These are some of the artworks created by our students during previous editions of the course. Each creation tells a story of color, shapes, experimentation, and creativity. Your artwork could be next: you could be the next person to experience this journey.

Five days where mosaic, sculpture, color, and creativity come together.

This group course is inspired by the artistic universe of Niki de Saint Phalle and includes a visit to the wonderful Tarot Garden, as well as the design and creation of a real three-dimensional mosaic artwork.

🌿 The course begins at the Tarot Garden, where we observe and analyze Niki de Saint Phalle’s artworks, her use of color and surfaces, and the application of mosaic to sculpture.

We then return to the studio, where each participant develops their own project—from shaping the form to applying the ceramic tiles.

During the 5-day course, you will learn how to:
• design a three-dimensional artwork;
• model and prepare the sculptural support;
• use ceramic mosaic on three-dimensional surfaces;
• work with shapes, volumes, and color;
• develop and complete a personal project.

✨ At the end of the course, you will take home your completed three-dimensional artwork, along with a certificate of participation and a basic mosaic tool kit.
