- Earl Spencer has opened an old wound

In his new memoir, he recalls an explosive argument with the then Prince Charles after Diana’s death — including the alleged words:

“We’ll forget her soon enough”

Buckingham Palace made the unusual decision to respond

….and what did the King actually say?

“Grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory”

No accusation!
No direct denial!

Just…

…. a very carefully chosen sentence.

Because sometimes, in English……

s

…..what isn’t said says everything!

🏆 After 53 years, the wait is over!!

The New York Knicks have won their first NBA title since 1973, ending one of the longest championship “ droughts “ in professional sports

📚 English in the Real World

DROUGHT (noun)

Although we usually associate a drought with a long period without rain, the word is also commonly used in sports to describe a long period without success.

Example:
👉 The Knicks ended a 53-year championship drought.

You may also hear:

✔️ break a drought
✔️ end a drought
✔️ snap a drought

These expressions are frequently used by journalists and commentators when a team finally wins after many years of disappointment.

💬Can you think of a sports team, country, or athlete that finally broke a long drought and achieved success?
