Our pdf innovative book, EXPERIENCING IRREGULAR VERBS, is now on sale. Order from [email protected].
"Traditionally, irregular verbs are tackled through isolated lists, presented alphabetically and memorised in a vacuum. This method, however, fails to acknowledge the interconnected nature of language. Irregular verbs aren't alien invaders in the English landscape; they're threads woven into the rich tapestry of the language, reflecting its history and character. They share a kinship with phrasal verbs, and much like them, irregular verbs express the essence of everyday life – actions like "go," "take," "bring," "turn," and "get" – the very flavour of spoken English.
So, let's move beyond the limitations of lists."

A Round of Drinks: Do, Make, Be and Get
In a dimly lit London pub, the air crackled with a right kerfuffle. Do, a sturdy verb with a booming voice, slammed his fist on the counter. "I'm the most important verb in the whole ruddy
language! I do the washing-up, I do the homework, I do the blinking lot!"
Make, a verb with a sly glint in his eye, leaned back in his stool, a smirk playing on his lips. "Jolly good show, Do, but you can't claim all the glory. I make things happen, you see? I make money, I
make mistakes, I make dreams a reality!"
Do puffed out his chest like a pompous pigeon. "Fine then! But can you make me a pint, old bean?"
Make raised an eyebrow, a hint of mischief twinkling. "Well, actually..."
The pub owner, a weary-looking verb named Be, paused mid-wipe of a glass. "Look here, you two can bicker all night, but at the end of the day, neither of you can do a thing without me. You can't do
the dishes or make a penny without being there in the first place, can you now?"
Do and Make exchanged sheepish glances, then looked back at Be with newfound respect. "Right you are," they mumbled in unison. "Another round, then, what?"
The door swung open with a bang, and a boisterous verb named Get swaggered in, all bluster and commotion. He plonked himself down next to Do and Make.
"What's all this to-do, then?" Get boomed, oblivious to the prior tension.
Do glared. We're having a debate, see, about who's the most important verb in the English language, innit?"
Get threw his head back and roared with laughter. "Blimey, you two? You haven't seen important until you've seen me in action! I get lost, I get cross, I get dressed up to the nines, I even get along
with people sometimes! The possibilities are endless, I tell you!"
Do and Make exchanged a sceptical look. Be, the pub owner, leaned over with a wry smile. "Hold on a tick, Get,"he said in a low voice. "You may be everywhere, but are you ever truly... yourself?"
Get paused, considering this with a furrowed brow. "Well...," he stammered, "I can be happy, I can be sad, I can be whatever I like!"
Be raised an eyebrow, a knowing glint in his eye. "Or are you just... getting by?"
A long silence hung in the air. Get slumped in his chair, defeated. Do and Make glanced at each other, a newfound respect dawning on their faces. Perhaps they weren't so different after all. They
both raised their glasses to Be in a silent toast. "Another round for everyone,"Do muttered, "and maybe a stiff drink for our friend here to find his true identity."
