Yesterday, during an excursion along the coast of in search of new spots for Diving Puglia D.C., I was lucky enough to come across a magnificent cormorant. In an instant, I knew I had a perfect subject for my camera in front of me.
In one fluid motion, I adjusted my underwater SLR and shot. The result? A that captures the wild beauty of this seabird, its elegance and its tenacity.
But do you know what the most interesting thing is? My skill in has grown significantly thanks to the constant practice I do with "normal" land photography.
Why?
Composition: The eye trained to capture the beauty of a sunset or the poetry of a wild flower learns to "see" the frame even underwater.
Light: Underwater light is different, but the basic principles of lighting remain the same. Taking photos on the surface taught me to play with natural and artificial light, creating evocative effects.
Patience: Waiting for the perfect moment to shoot is essential both on land and in water. Photography has taught me patience, perseverance and the art of capturing the fleeting moment.
So, my advice for all underwater photography enthusiasts is: practice land photography too!
Not only will you improve your technique, but you will develop a more sensitive and creative eye, capable of capturing beauty in every corner of the world, even underwater.
Together, we can celebrate the beauty of our planet, both above and below the waves.
