Venezuela is a land of contrasts, (it is, in fact, one of the 17 most biodiverse countries in the world) not only for its varied topography (Andean Cordillera, desert landscape, Amazon Rainforest, splendid coasts and Caribbean islands) but also for its people. Venezuela is a mestizo (predominantly a mixture of European, Indigenous and African people and culture) land and Choroní is tangible proof of it. It is a town where the traces of the New World history and the integration of people and cultures brought by colonization are still visible. It is the result of the mestizaje produced by Indians "Choroní", the Spanish and Africans. Founded in 1622, the little village around the Church became an official town with the name of San Francisco de Paula, and more recently, in 1964, was renamed Santa Clara Valley Choroní, known today as Choroní . But Choroní’s greatest charm is its people: Venezuelans are cheerful, highly sociable and easy to get to know, you might get invited to hang out with friends and enjoy your stay among many cultural activities like the afro-Venezuelan dance (tambores) typical of this Caribbean land. Scioglilingua works with a team of native Spanish teachers who are specialised in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language and have a strong interest in intercultural communication. Our main innovations, if compared to other establishments in the area, concern organization and methodology. Our method is based on an affective-humanistic approach and on ludic and interactive didactics. The language and culture courses we offer focus on developing communication skills rather than grammar or theoretical ones, giving practical tools for communicating in daily life, ensuring a rapid, effective and lasting acquisition of knowledge. Our courses are tailor-made (based on content, length and intensity) to fulfill the students' needs and satisfy their interests. Our philosophy includes the implementation of the learning by doing principle. we have elaborated a specific methodology for our course in Choroní that promotes the development of communication skills by the need of immediate response and exchange of information and exposure to a real context through the contact with nature, (mountains, rivers, oceans, beaches etc.) local and national Venezuelan culture, and interaction with the local people.
