When a couturier leaves his eponym maison, its successor faces complex challenges. In 2008, after Garavani exited Valentino, the duo Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri succeeded to give a breath of fresh air to the brand and put Valentino at the forefront of the international fashion stage. This attitude of positive change and growth has continued ever since with Piccioli taking over the brand’s creative direction solo.
In 2018, Valentino couture collection signed by the Italian designer marked the spirits so much
that Piccioli was appointed ‘Designer of the Year’. He really learned working side by side with Mr. Garavani and thus intends to keep the essence of Mr. Valentino’s work into his new collections, adding it his touch of romanticism and feminine grace in every of its pieces such as with the long sleeves or fluid and colourful fabrics…
Piccioli is very passionate and his work can be the direct mirror of his surroundings: his family, his instinct, and Rome, a city very dear to him, as he wishes to modernise the brand but by maintaining the original codes of Valentino.

An interview with Silvia Venturini Fendi on the future of Fendi as the brand enters a post-Lagerfeld era: “I ask myself very often what Karl would say, but Fendi is a combination of excessiveness and limits, of rigour and freedom, Mitteleuropa and Rome. And even if he is not around, my way of thinking is informed by those juxtapositions.”
