It was such a joy to welcome back some of the Class of 2006 to The British School of Milan as they celebrated 20 years since graduating.

Alumni travelled from London, New York, Melbourne and Milan, for a memorable weekend of dinners, informal gatherings, school tours, and even a lively football match featuring BSM staff and a visiting school from London.

The enthusiasm to reconnect with each other, the school, current students, and familiar teachers like Mrs Braithwaite and Mr Coppola was truly contagious.

As alumnus David Antognini shared:
“I remember springtime at school and in Milan as magical. The teachers were so kind, it was such a wonderful international class and a close-knit community.”
A milestone of memories, and enduring connections.

Once a Sir Jameser, always a Sir Jameser!

What does learning look like beyond the classroom? At BSM, it means 77 trips in a single year, each one opening new perspectives.

Our Senior School students have been exploring further afield, bringing their learning to life in truly meaningful ways. From standing on the border of Switzerland and France atop a mountain, an achievement that impressed even those who “don’t like hiking”, to shared experiences that have “created a more positive, more united atmosphere,” these trips go far beyond the journey itself.

By stepping outside the classroom, students build confidence, resilience and stronger connections with one another, developing life skills that will stay with them long after their school years.

Our first fundraising gala dinner on 27 May was a huge success, exceeding our fundraising target!
We’re so grateful to have partnered with Istituto dei Ciechi and Cometa, reflecting our commitment to supporting our community, alongside the fantastic support of our sponsors: LM School Uniforms, Disaronno, Giardini Galbiati, Azienda Agricola Rosa Fanti, Tenuta di Roncolo and PlatesTablesandMore.
Thank you for helping make this such a special evening.

What does learning look like beyond the classroom? At BSM, it means 77 trips in a single year, each one offering new experiences and fresh perspectives.

Our Primary School pupils have been out and about exploring the world around them bringing their learning to life in the most meaningful way. These experiences are about so much more than a day out; they help our youngest learners build confidence, resilience, teamwork and adaptability, all while discovering new places.

By stepping outside the classroom, pupils develop the life skills that will stay with them far beyond their school years, all whilst creating lasting memories with their friends.

Deepfake Photos and AI? A Parent/Student Initiative

AI can offer perspective, give depth to research, make your photos shine. And it can do horrible things, with deepfake photos and videos making the non-existent real.

BSM invited Dr Alejandra Gomez Ortega, a leading researcher in design as well as Digital Features Fellow at the Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology to run practical sessions and experience AI deepfake photos hands on.

Through open discussions we explored the parameters: the good, the bad and the ugly to help shape how our students interact with this technology. This was followed by a parents' workshop to participate, to discuss and to ensure an open dialogue on how to balance AI both within our school and outside in our daily lives.

Year 5 students enjoyed an unforgettable journey along the Spina Verde walking path in Spina Verde Regional Park.

It was a fantastic opportunity to explore nature along tranquil wooded trails, with rewarding sweeping views and stunning panoramas above Como. Throughout the day, the children applied their geography and outdoor learning skills through map and compass work, while also collaborating on a range of team-building activities.

A brilliant day of learning beyond the classroom in the great outdoors!

BSM is deeply committed to learning beyond the classroom; building character, embedding core values, and encouraging students to step boldly outside their comfort zones.

Year 8’s recent trip to Morzine was a truly milestone experience for our school. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the French mountains, students embraced a range of exciting challenges, from rafting and kayaking to hiking high in the alpine landscape, all digital-free!

Moments like these are about so much more than adventure. They foster resilience, strengthen friendships, and create powerful opportunities for teamwork and personal growth.

The value of experiences like this is immeasurable and the memories made will last a lifetime.
