Today, the Summer School on AI for Condition Monitoring kicked off. The school brings together students to explore the latest advances in -driven . The Summer School is indeed part of the Congress, which will officially begin tomorrow.

The Summer School is organised by Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia with the support of (International Society on Condition Monitoring).

We thank the main teacher Hamid-Reza Karimi, professor of Applied Mechanics with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, whose original research achievements are within the topic of control systems and intelligence health monitoring systems with applications to vehicles, robotics and mechatronics.

Machine Learning (ML) had a huge impact on materials science, by predicting properties such as strength and hardness. However, when it comes to predict microstructure evolution during thermomechanical processes it has proven not to so effective.

This study, presented by our authors Shahab Bazri, Carlo Mapelli and Davide Mombelli of Politecnico di Milano, Renato Nemfardi, Roberto Bedini and Giorgio Zucchelli of Eure Inox Srl, offers a physically informed ML framework that aims to predict accurately the modeling and visualization of steel microstructure evolution during annealing, a heat treatment that alters the properties of a material.

The Vickers hardness test is one of the static mechanical tests that can be used to measure the hardness of materials and is a key procedure in materials science.

Traditional Vickers hardness measurement relies on manual identification of indentation diagonals, a process that is slow, subjective, and prone to variability. But in this work presented by our authors Francesco Bertolini, Marco Mariani e Nora Francesca Maria Lecis and FuntasmaLab it is introduced a deep learning-based system for fully automated Vickers hardness measurement.

In questa ricerca — finanziata dalla Fondazione Cariplo — le nostre autrici Maddalena Carsana, Federica Lollini e Elena Redaelli del Politecnico di Milano si sono focalizzate in particolare sul calcestruzzo riciclato da pavimentazioni stradali (Recycled Asphalt Pavement, RAP) e la sua resistenza ad agenti esterni.
