唐鳳於IASDR2025談AI共存|Audrey Tang on Coexisting with AI at IASDR 2025 06/02/2026

🎥 AI illuminates the uncommon ground.

In an age when AI is often imagined as an inevitable march toward a distant superintelligence, Audrey Tang, Taiwan’s Cyber Ambassador and first Digital Minister, offers a grounded and hopeful reframing for IASDR 2025.

In this special video message, shared during the conference, Tang reflects on how Taiwan has demonstrated the power of AI-augmented democracy—using technology not to dictate outcomes, but to amplify collective intelligence, transform division into dialogue, and turn disagreement into consensus.
Her message is clear and resonant:
We are the superintelligence.

At its best, AI does not replace human intelligence.
It magnifies our capacity to collaborate, to care, to innovate, and to build bridges across divides.
It illuminates the uncommon ground—revealing shared points of unity where traditional politics once saw only separation.
For designers and innovators, this is a call to responsibility and imagination.
AI needs thoughtful, responsive design to ensure it serves humanity, embeds democratic values, and strengthens human dignity.

🌏 The future is not singular—it is plural.
We are the superintelligence. And together, we can free the future.

IASDR 2025 | For Everyone in the Conference 👑

We extend our sincere gratitude to all IASDR contributors for your outstanding research and commitment to advancing the field of design. This year we received 1,120 submissions, setting a new record for IASDR. Your work made the conference an inspiring and knowledge-rich platform, where the depth and diversity of topics significantly expanded our collective understanding of design practice, theory, and its global impact.

We also thank all participants who joined us both in Taipei and online. Your active engagement and thoughtful discussions created a vibrant scholarly community that encouraged meaningful collaboration and lasting connections.Congratulations to the recipients of this year’s Best Paper Awards, and thank you for your exceptional contributions.

As we close this year’s gathering, we hope these conversations continue to grow. Your research not only drives the evolution of design but also sparks new directions for inquiry and innovation. As Don Norman reminded us during the closing ceremony, “The young people in this audience, you are the future who will determine the future history of human beings.”

Thank you for being part of IASDR and for shaping the future of design research with integrity and vision.

We look forward to seeing you in Portugal!

IASDR 2025 Day 4 | Closing Ceremony from Dec. 5

We are deeply honored to welcome Don Norman — world-renowned design pioneer, Honorary Professor Emeritus, co-founder of the nonprofit : Don Norman Design Award, and founder of The Design Lab, UC San Diego — as a special guest at our Closing Ceremony.

Professor Norman delivered a compelling reflection on how design has continually reshaped human affordances—from primitive tools to the rise of Generative AI. He argued that designers must now expand beyond human-centered thinking toward humanity- and planet-centered responsibility, integrating ethics, politics, and systems awareness. He emphasized AI as a future collaborator rather than a tool, calling on young designers to lead this paradigm shift. His keynote highlighted a central insight: the next era of design will be defined not by technology alone, but by how designers choose to guide its impact on life and society.

We are truly honored to welcome Professor Norman to the IASDR 2025 conference and to have him deliver such an inspiring keynote. His presence enriched this year’s program and motivated emerging scholars and practitioners, and his insights will continue to guide our “Next Design” long after the conference concludes.

Lastly, and most importantly, we extend our warmest congratulations to Portugal for being selected as the host of IASDR 2027. We look forward to seeing the vision that Peter Scupelli of Carnegie Mellon University will bring to the next conference theme, “Designing Futures: Celebrating Humanity in the Age of AI,” and to the inspiring conversations it will surely spark.

IASDR 2025 Day 3 | Technology Keynote Forum Highlights from Dec. 4

Our final Keynote Speaker of was Prof. Stephen Wensveen from the Faculty of Industrial Design, Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. We were honored to welcome Prof. Wensveen to Taipei.

In his keynote, Prof. Wensveen explores how intelligence—AI, machine learning, and emerging materials—reshapes form, culture, and experience. Moving beyond surface styling, it proposes an “aesthetics of intelligence” that embraces uncertainty, harmonised agencies, and new ways of seeing in a world shaped by smart technologies.

The conversation continued in our Technology Forum, led by Moderator Peter Lloyd of Delft University of Technology, and joined by discussants Shikuan Chen of Compal Electronics, Shyhnan Liou of the Taiwan Design Research Institute, and Rung-Huei Liang of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Together, they offered diverse and thought-provoking perspectives on the evolving intersections of aesthetics, design, and technology.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all speakers for opening up new possibilities and deepening our understanding of how human values and technological progress coevolve. Their contributions also echo the spirit of this year’s IASDR theme, Design Next.
