💃 What is Raíces Cubanas?
Raíces Cubanas is a dance-theatre performance that presents the richness of Cuban culture through a modern scenic language.

This is a professional production created by ICCD founder Leonardo Martinez Moya, in collaboration with our choreographers Sergio Larrinaga, Mireysi Morales, and Arelys Savron. The show blends Afro-Cuban folklore, rumba, the Orishas (Yoruba deities), son cubano, and other traditional and popular Cuban dance and music styles.

It features professional dancers and musicians who are not only part of the ICCD team - they are its face and spirit. We’ll be introducing them to you along the way 💫

Notably, the show also includes original choreographic works dating back to the early years of the legendary Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba - a tribute to the roots of folkloric stage performance in Cuba, and a way to preserve and honor the legacy of that iconic institution, where our maestros were trained and performed.

🌿 Structure of the show
The performance is divided into two parts:
- The African Roots - a deep dive into the spiritual and cultural heritage of Cuba through ritual dance, music, and myth.
- Cuba’s Vibrant Present - showcasing the diversity of Cuban popular dances that have grown from those roots and continue to live and evolve today.

In just 90 minutes, the audience embarks on an emotional journey through the history, energy, and meaning of Cuba.
