Mobility in Portugal, Day 4
Fourth day of Erasmus + in Portugal
invited us to beautiful, vast Lisbon. In the morning we took the ferry from Barreiro and after 20 minutes of travel we were already on the other side of the bay, in the capital city of Portugal. When we stepped out onto the mainland, walking along the shore we reached the "Cais de colunas", with the Plaza de Commerce behind us - one of the most monumental places in Lisbon.
Then we took a 6.5 km ride on a Lisbon tram to finally find ourselves under one of the most beautiful buildings in the Portuguese capital - a beautiful monastery founded in honour of the Portuguese colonisation (Mosteiro dos Jeronimos). Then we headed back to the coast to see up close the over 50 metre high monument dedicated to sea explorers. Wandering along the beautiful Belem boulevar, we passed marinas and a lighthouse to finally reach the "Torre de Belem" - medieval fortifications, intended to be the first sea defence of the city, from the ocean side.
We had a few minutes of rest in a nearby park, listening to a street violinist play.
Later on we found ourselves on a picturesque street lined with the traditional yellow Lisbon trams. Walking up the street we saw the beautiful 12th century cathedral (Se da Lisboa). Heading then to the top of the Lisbon hill we arrived at Castelo di S. Jorge. The complex, consisting of a Moorish castle and the ruins of a palace, could be explored on our own, but we were never far from the beautiful peacocks, of which there were dozens in this open museum. Then it was time to buy souvenirs and gifts for our loved ones in the picturesque streets and at 6:30 p.m. we returned to Barreiro by the same route we had taken in Lisbon.
However, this was not the end of the experience for today, because immediately after the exhausting sightseeing of the beautiful city, it was time to relax over a shared dinner at the homes of our hosts. Everyone spent this time differently, but everyone was satisfied with it
