Tsukihi wa hyakudai no kakaku ni sh*te, yukikau toshi mo mata tabibito nari.

In giapponese moderno:

Today’s calligraphy practice (shodo) focuses on a phrase I deeply love:

Tsukihi wa hyakudai no kakaku ni sh*te, yukikau toshi mo mata tabibito nari.

"The passing days and months are eternal travellers in time. The years that come and go are travellers too."

This phrase is from "Oku no Hosomichi" (奥の細道, "The Narrow Road to the Interior"), written by Matsuo Bashō in 1689. It is a masterpiece of Japanese literature from the Edo period, a poetic travel diary reflecting on the transience of life and the beauty of impermanence.

Sono kigen wa kodai no Nihon ni sakanobori, sengoku jidai ni wa senjō de no hatajirushi to sh*te tsukaware, gun no naka no yunitto no shurui o shimesh*te imash*ta.
