“Around the Wall” è una summer school internazionale di disegno e progetto che si svolge ogni anno a Lucca e dintorni. Riguarda lo studio della città come organismo e tessuto complesso di culture, tradizioni ed azioni quotidiane che devono far fronte alla costante e sempre più rapida evoluzione della società e del territorio, urbano ed extra urbano. Il disegno, come rappresentazione e ricerca, e i
l “pensare progettuale” sono gli strumenti attraverso cui indagare questa complessità. L’esplorazione di Lucca, dentro e fuori le mura, il territorio circostante, le risorse idriche e produttive, i sapori e i racconti della tradizione contribuiscono alla comprensione e definizione dell’identità della città. In particolare, il Cinquecentenario delle mura, che verrà celebrato nel 2013, è stata occasione di riflessione e spunto progettuale.

“Around the Wall” is an international summer school of drawing and design that will take place in Lucca, Tuscany, and its surroundings from August 24th to September 3rd. The workshop concerns the study of the city as a complex organism and texture of cultures, traditions and daily actions that need to face the constant and fast evolution of the society and territory, urban and extra-urban one. The drawing, as an action both to represent and research, and design thinking will be the main tools through which to investigate this complexity. The exploration of Lucca, in and outside of its walls, the surrounding landscape, the water and productive resources, the flavors and tales of the tradition, all these will contribute to the understanding and definition of the city identity. In particular, Lucca’s walls Quincentennial - that will be celebrated in 2013 - represents the main inspiration and thinking opportunity to design.
