Trending English: “It’s not giving”

This is a slang expression used when something doesn’t match the vibe, expectation, or standard

Examples:

“This outfit is not giving.”
= It doesn’t look good / it’s not the right vibe.

“His apology was not giving sincere.”
= It didn’t feel sincere.

“The photo is not giving professional.”
= It doesn’t look professional.

It’s informal, so use it with friends or online — not in formal English 👀

In the UK we say:

🇬🇧 petrol
🇬🇧 motorway
🇬🇧 underground
🇬🇧 return ticket

In American English, you’ll usually hear:

🇺🇸 truck
🇺🇸 gas
🇺🇸 highway
🇺🇸 subway
🇺🇸 round-trip ticket

⚠️ And be careful: in the UK, subway often means an underground pedestrian walkway — not the metro.

Do you know when to use DO and MAKE?

In English, they are not the same.

DO = actions, tasks, activities
→ do homework
→ do a job
→ do your best

MAKE = creation, result, reaction
→ make a cake
→ make a mistake
→ make a plan
→ make someone happy

Common mistake:
❌ I did a mistake
✅ I made a mistake

Think of it like this:
DO = the action
MAKE = the result

Save this if you always mix them up

Do you know when to use FOR and SINCE?

Many learners confuse these two, but the rule is simple:

📍 FOR = a period of time
→ for 5 years
→ for two weeks
→ for a long time

📍 SINCE = the starting point
→ since 2020
→ since Monday
→ since I was 18

Think of it like this:

FOR = how long
SINCE = from when

Save this if you always mix them up
