ble use of natural resources, biotic and abiotic, through the production and dissemination of knowledge on the management and improvement of plants, animals, soil and microorganisms for the production of quality food and biomass, ensuring the conservation of ecological systems, the protection of cultivated plants and enhancing the environment and biodiversity. Assuming that in the agro-food industry the close connections between the environment, crop and animal production, biomass and food require integrated and interdisciplinary approach, vision and methods, the Department DAFNAE develop excellent research and teaching in the fields of science and technology plant, animal and microbial soil, cultivation techniques and livestock, the environmental sustainability of agro-livestock and food biotechnology in agriculture and food and the environment, the preservation and enhancement of environmental resources and biodiversity, the properties technological products, and the evaluation and enhancement of the quality of the food. The main novelty in the cultural project of the department is to study the environmental and agri-food sector with a comprehensive approach, in order to consider and exploit the interconnections that exist within individual sectors and between different production chains. In particular, we are grouped in a logical system of scientific expertise, teaching and administration in the fields of knowledge and the production of vegetable and animal raw materials, the quality of the agricultural and forestry, including meadows and lawns, the study of components biocenotic plant and animal production, processing and exploitation of food and non-food products and services, using advanced methods of research, including biotechnology.

𝐃𝐀𝐅𝐍𝐀𝐄 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝!
Hi everyone! 👋🏼 I’m Claudia Camilletti, a PhD student in 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (40th cycle, 2nd year) at DAFNAE – University of Padova, supervised by Prof. Benedetto Ruperti.
During my exchange period, I am carrying out research activities at the Kompetenzzentrum Obstbau Bodensee (KOB) (Lake of Constance Research Centre for Fruit Cultivation) in Ravensburg, Germany, under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Alexandre Neuwald ().
My PhD research focuses on analyzing the causes and development of soft scald and senescent scald in apples during storage. At KOB, I am investigating this phenomenon through the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). 🍎🧪📚

Hi everyone! 👋🏼 I’m Marco Falasco, a PhD student in 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (39th cycle) at DAFNAE – University of Padova, under the supervision of Prof. Luca Mazzon.
During my international mobility period, I had the opportunity to carry out research at BOKU University in Vienna, Austria, under the guidance of Prof. Christian Stauffer.
My research focuses on the effects of environmental factors on insect microbiota, with particular attention to two species of European wild pollinators: Bombus pascuorum and Halictus scabiosae. The goal is to develop strategies to improve pollinator health, contributing to both environmental sustainability and ecosystem resilience. 🐝🌱🌍

This international experience has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to grow both professionally and personally while expanding my scientific network and research perspectives.

La mia ricerca si concentra sugli effetti dei fattori ambientali sul microbiota degli insetti, con particolare attenzione a due specie di impollinatori selvatici europei: Bombus pascuorum e Halictus scabiosae. L'obiettivo è sviluppare strategie per migliorare la salute degli impollinatori, contribuendo alla sostenibilità ambientale e alla resilienza degli ecosistemi. 🐝🌱🌍

Questa esperienza all'estero è stata estremamente arricchente e mi ha permesso di crescere sia dal punto di vista professionale che personale, ampliando al tempo stesso la mia rete scientifica e le mie prospettive di ricerca.

🎓 𝐂𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐚, PhD in Animal and Food Science del nostro Dipartimento DAFNAE, ha ricevuto il 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐨 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐝𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐥’𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞̀𝐜𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐝𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐞̀𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚, tra i più prestigiosi riconoscimenti assegnati alle migliori tesi di dottorato.

La sua ricerca ha riguardato la progettazione e ottimizzazione di formulazioni di aquafeed per sistemi di acquacoltura a ricircolo (RAS), in acqua dolce e marina, contribuendo allo sviluppo di un’acquacoltura più sostenibile.

Il lavoro è stato svolto nell’ambito di una cotutela internazionale tra DAFNAE – Università di Padova, ICTA – Universitat Politècnica de València e CIIMAR (Portogallo), insieme alle supervisori Prof.sse Angela Trocino, Silvia Martines Llorens e Helena Peres.

🎓 𝐂𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐚, PhD in Animal and Food Science from our DAFNAE Department, has been awarded the Premio Extraordinario de Tesis Doctoral by the Universitat Politècnica de València, one of the university’s highest distinctions for doctoral research.

Her dissertation focused on the design and optimization of aquafeed formulations for recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) in freshwater and marine environments, contributing to the future of sustainable aquaculture.

The research was developed through an international co-supervision programme involving DAFNAE – University of Padua, ICTA – Universitat Politècnica de València and CIIMAR (Portugal), together with supervisors Prof. Angela Trocino, Silvia Martines Llorens and Helena Peres.

Hi everyone! 👋🏼 I’m Francesco Valente, a PhD student in 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐩 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (41st cycle) at DAFNAE – University of Padova, supervised by Prof. Teofilo Vamerali.

During my exchange period, I am carrying out research activities at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU), in Prague, Czech Republic, under the supervision of Dr. Olga Leuner.

Within the framework of my doctoral project on wheat-legume intercropping, my research focuses on post-harvest management and storage alternatives for products deriving from this cropping system. My work combines laboratory experimentation with comprehensive literature reviews, aiming to explore innovative and sustainable solutions for crop management. 🌾🧪📚
