THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER 🦪
The world is your oyster means:
You have many opportunities available to you, and you are free to achieve success, explore, or make the most of life.
For example:
* Now that you’ve graduated, the world is your oyster.
→ You have many possibilities and opportunities ahead of you.
Where does it come from?
The expression comes from the play The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare, written around 1600.
In the play, one character says:
“Why, then the world’s mine oyster,
Which I with sword will open.”
The speaker, Pistol, means that the world is like a closed oyster containing a valuable pearl. He intends to “open” it and claim its riches and opportunities.
