the 2026 call for papers is out!

We hope to see you all in Brindisi on April next to talk about and these crazy times we are living.

The questions behind the 2026 call for papers are:
Why populist and antidemocratic leaders are elected and supported?
How their messages are amplified in the virtual space (and what could we do about it)?
Why this scary regression of international law and rule of law?
And - more importantly - does democracy need some kind of rethinking or reshaping fit for the new millennium, to bring back people to politics and to democracy?

Il primo appuntamento di questo nuovo anno accademico per la Cattedra Jean Monnet

Università del Salento has been awarded a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, called EUmanity Demos, Democracy for Europe àd the World. 🌍🌎🌏

This is a direct development of the Jean Monnet Chair "Europens Supranational Democracy. A Lab for the World." and of rhe Supranational Democracy Dialogue experience.
🏳️‍🌈🇪🇺🏳️‍🌈🇪🇺

It will involve, together with the colleagues of the Legal Science Department, colleagues from the Human and Social Science Department, Ingeneering and Cultural Heritage. The team will be completed by colleagues from Nijmegen, Lyon and Paris.
Among the research streams: democracy and technology, environmental democracy and democracy and culture.

As the Supranational Democracy Dialogue approaches, we can hardly wait to hear the influential voices that will contribute to the event.

Jan Wouters is Full Professor of International Law and International Organizations, Jean Monnet Chair ad personam EU and Global Governance, and founding Director of the Institute for International Law and of the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, an interdisciplinary research centre with the status of both a Jean Monnet and KU Leuven Centre of Excellence, at KU Leuven. He is also Administrator of the America Europe Fund.

He will be the keynote speaker for our third panel, “Values and Tools for a New World Order”, with his contributions on “Europe and the World: Adapting to a Changing Landscape”.
