WHEN WE SAY NO TO A CHILD ,
do we always explain why?
“Don’t touch that!” “No!” “Leave it alone!”
Then we wonder why they cry.
We shout, “Be careful!” “Get down!” “Don’t run!”
Then wonder why they ask, “Why not? I’m just having fun!”
These words, to a child, don’t feel like home—
Just empty rooms of negativity
That curb their curiosity
And stifle creativity.
They need space to think for themselves,
Not cheap plastic toys stacked on shelves.
Explanations and examples—that’s what they crave,
It’s reason that helps plant the seed,
To sprout, to grow, and then take heed—
Until strong roots hold them firm and proud,
And wings emerge…
So they can soar above the crowd. ❤️
