🎵 Open and Shut Them — la canzone che sembra “solo” un gioco di mani, e invece è pura magia per lo sviluppo del linguaggio.

Con i bambini piccoli uso spesso canzoni semplicissime come questa, e c’è un motivo preciso: le mani che si aprono e si chiudono, che salgono e scendono, danno un supporto fisico a ogni parola. Il bambino non deve “capire” il significato in astratto — lo vede, lo sente nel corpo, lo ripete col movimento prima ancora di padroneggiarlo con la voce.

Questo è il cuore del mio metodo: il linguaggio entra meglio quando passa dal corpo, non solo dall’orecchio.

🇬🇧 With little ones, I love using dead-simple songs like this one, and there’s a real reason why: hands opening and closing, rising and falling, give a physical anchor to every word. A child doesn’t need to “understand” the meaning abstractly — they see it, they feel it in their body, and they repeat it through movement long before they master it with their voice.

That’s the heart of my method: language sticks better when it comes through the body, not just the ears. Repetition + gesture + music = the three keys that unlock a new sound, a new language, a new word.

🇬🇧 Found this paper crane the other day, made by the au pair girl who’s staying with us. She told me she learned to fold it as a child — and never forgot how.

Our hands remember. What we learn as children — a gesture, a song, a language — often ends up in our long-term memory: the kind that resists time, that comes back even after years without using it.

That’s the same reason the best way to learn a language as a child isn’t studying it, but living it — through play, music, natural repetition. It’s never forgotten, because it was never “learned” the school way: it was absorbed.
