The CeDISA is the result of a collaborative initiative of the Comune di Jelsi (CB), Leiden University, and the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome.

The Centro Didattico Internazionale di Studi Archeologici di Jelsi, which is the result of a collaborative initiative of the Comune di Jelsi (CB), the Groningen Institute of Archaeology, at the University of Groningen, and the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome, is based in the old Franciscan convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie just outside the town of Jelsi, in Molise. The local community of Jelsi has been actively involved in the field work projects coordinated in the area since 2004, The structure serves as accommodation and laboratory for the annual field school of the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome - the Tappino Archaeological Project -, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research project Landscapes of Early Roman Colonization, and several other archaeological research projects, university courses, and excursions. The CeDISA offers ample didactic and lecture rooms, a large courtyard and a separate structure for accommodation, with the capacity to comfortably house over 20 people - in cloister-style cells - as well as a kitchen and a communal dining room. The structure is ideal for field school activities, ceramic and other find processing, as well as for conferences or workshops with groups of students and staff.

The course adopts a diachronic and systemic perspective with a focus on archaeology, in order to better understand Rome’s initial expansion between the late Regal and mid-Republican period (mid 6th to 3th century BC). Through a critical reading of Rome’s material record and that of Rome’s competitors in contemporary central Tyrrhenian Italy, you will explore the characteristics and socio-economic impact of early Roman expansion and colonisation, and evaluate different theories regarding the nature of early Roman imperialism.

Il gruppo "olandese", addolorato, si stringe alla famiglia D’Amico, e alla comunità di Jelsi in questo triste momento per la perdita del caro Salvatore.

Questa mattina il nostro Sindaco Salvatore D'Amico si è spento all'Ospedale Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza di San Giovanni Rotondo. Ai suoi familiari e ai parenti vanno le nostre più sentite condoglianze.
I funerali si terranno domani pomeriggio, 18 dicembre, alle ore 15:30 nella Chiesa Madre S. Andrea Apostolo di Jelsi.
