CasalEmilio, Italian-Norwegian center of music studies, run by Barbara Cipollone and Lars Henrik Johansen, is a place where research meets performative activities and experimentation. It offers workshops on the Italian language for singers and other music students, coaching, courses on music history and culture, exhibitions, the possibility of professional recordings, research activity, intercultural exchange between Italy and the Nordic countries, and, to a certain extent, accomodation of guests. Students and researchers can simply use the house as a quiet place in which to study and relax. Pianist, harpsichordist and musicologist, Barbara Cipollone holds a master in Preservation of cultural heritage and a PhD in Musicology from the University of Bologna, with a doctoral thesis in music philology and dramaturgy. She has been a fellow at the Department of Cultural heritage of the University of Bologna within the project “Italian opera dramaturgy in the early 19th century”. She worked at the editing of Petrarca texts published in the digital archive “Petrarca in musica” (within the European project “Digital archives for the safeguard of European musical heritage”) and within the research project “Il Corago”, digital archives of opera scores, librettos and other sources at the University of Bologna. She has been lecturer in musical dramaturgy and music theory at the Faculty of Preservation of the cultural heritage of the same University. Her research activities includes bibliographic research on 17th and 18th printed music editions, 18th and 19th century Italian opera, with special attention to librettos derived from French literary sources, 17th and 18th century music for two harpsichords (combining performative and musicological skills), editions of opera scores and librettos, poetry set to music (with a particular attention to Petrarca, Marino and Goldoni). She has taken part in music cataloguing initiatives in Italy and Norway. She is working for the “Rossini critical edition” in collaboration with the Center for Italian Opera Studies at the University of Chicago and Bärenreiter Verlag, and for the “Norwegian Musical Heritage” with the University of Oslo, the Norwegian Music Academy and the National Library of Norway. She also worked at the Opera Academy of Oslo as a language consultant. Having obtained a masters degree in harpsichord from the Norwegian Academy of Music, a masters degree in early music from the Royal Danish Academy of Music, a ‘storfag’ in musicology from the University of Oslo, with ERASMUS exchange periods at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen and Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, Lars Henrik Johansen is currently working as a freelance harpsichordist and conductor. He has played with most Norwegian baroque and classical orchestras and in numerous chamber music projects; played concerts in the Nordic and Baltic countries, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Malta, Brazil and USA; contributed on a dozen recordings; taught at the University of Oslo, at the Norwegian Academy of Music and at the Opera Academy in Oslo; conducted several Norwegian orchestras; and is the musical director of Ensemble 1704 and L’État Libre de Neige. He is currently PhD student at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Trondheim).
