Book Review 📚💕
The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl by Stacy McAnulty
This book is for middle grade students and follows the mind of math genius, Lucy. It has a unique storyline and an underlying taste of math without being overbearing. This surely isn’t your typical ‘math lesson’ but more so the perspective of someone who sees things from a mathy point of view!

I read this book in literally less than 24 hours. But selfishly it’s because we are using this book as a reference to the book we wrote and are currently submitting to agencies!! Stay tuned to learn about our version of a fictional ‘mathy’ novel. 🤭🙌🏻

Overall I give this book 4 out of 5 stars! And I would recommend it to one of my students in the future! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

About to embark on an 800+ page journey! 🤩 One of my favorite authors has a quote across the top: “The book I wish I’d writtten” - R. F. Kuang

Well, if you didn’t know, we’re working on a book of our own at Edify-able! Call it research at the public library. Although our book is nothing of the likes of this book or those inspired by it, it’s fun to see how one author inspires another’s work. Plus, after weeks of hunting for this novel at the library and thrift store, I can’t wait to dive in!

Whether you love to exchange a book weekly, or just want to test a novel out before buying it for your home library, give your public library some love! Not to mention, a free place with computers, AC, and WiFi that welcomes our youth? Sign us up!
Parents, the public library often has great volunteer programs for your kids to get involved reading and teaching younger students. After all, teaching others strengthens your own understanding!

Mt. Etna 🌋 This is Europe’s largest and MOST ACTIVE volcano! Our local tour guide assured us that it’s similar to other natural disasters, like hurricanes - they can be predicted and tracked! Compared to 1500 B.C. (when we have our first written record of the volcano), scientists can now track seismic activity and can warn locals weeks or months in advance of an eruption! Plus they’ve developed methods to divert the lava flow from towns to protect their homes 🤯 This 11,000 ft tall volcano is surely a beautiful force not to be reckoned with! 🤌🏼

This week I’ve been in a 6th grade ELA class 😅 I’m definitely more of a math person but it’s fun getting to practice teaching other subjects as well! It makes me a better teacher in the long run. It also helps me see what kids are learning in different subjects, in different grades! Otherwise how else would I know 6th graders are beginning to learn about 5 paragraph essays this month! 📝 What was the last essay you wrote about? 🤔

Quien dijo que aprender no podía ser divertido? 🤔 Translation: Who said learning couldn’t be fun? 🤩 Not us, that’s for sure!

To practice listening and speaking in Spanish, we’re playing a game where one person draws a picture then describes it in Spanish. The listeners have to pay close attention to recreate the picture on their white board. And of course, Learning Labubu is my students’ favorite inspiration! 🤣🫶🏻

Learning can be affordable, too! These white boards and markers were only $6.25, and they’ve seen countless drawings, math problems, and writing.

sorry we’ve been MIA!!! 🤭 We have been out and about exploring different countries 🌏 Traveling is one of the BEST ways to expand your perspective and learn something new! We got to experience so many things different than what we are used to here in the states! Keep an eye out for more posts going into detail about what we learned 🫶🏼🙌🏻
