☀️ THE 15-MINUTE FAMILY COMPASS
At the beach, in the mountains, or during a picnic while exploring a city, take 15 minutes to practise life skills together.
👀 NOTICE — 3 minutes
Pause and identify:
• 3 things you can see
• 2 sounds you can hear
• 1 sensation you notice in your body
💭 FEEL — 4 minutes
Take turns completing:
“Right now, I feel…”
“I am thinking…”
“In my body, I notice…”
🤝 CONNECT — 4 minutes
Choose another family member and tell them:
“One quality I appreciate in you is…”
“I noticed it when…”
🎯 CHOOSE — 4 minutes
Agree on one small action you would like to do together during the rest of the day.
Make it specific, realistic and shared!
Practising this activity during calm and enjoyable moments can make it easier to use the same steps when stress, tension, anger or sadness appears. Pausing to notice what we see, think and feel can help us reconnect with the present and interrupt the unhelpful loop that sometimes develops between our thoughts, physical sensations and actions.
This simple activity helps children, teenagers and adults practise personal awareness, emotional intelligence, positive communication and organisation.
The holidays are not only a time to rest. They can also offer meaningful opportunities to learn, connect and grow together.
Where would your family try the 15-Minute Family Compass?
