Did you know the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is a gigantic astronomical instrument? Every year, a tiny hole installed on top of the dome lets the sun slant through and mark the summer solstice on a marble disk on the floor of the church. This student worked here on different street photography excercises: adjusting the shutter speed and aperture to freeze movement and use reflective surfaces for composition, as well as palying with light and shadows.

For her 15th birthday, Katherine, the author of this egg tempera painting, asked for a trip to Italy so she could experience art with her own eyes and hands. This Ancient Techniques workshop was part of her birthday package. We absolutely love a young student who is really passionate about art ❤️
