Students from more than 22 countries — including China, the USA, Canada, Spain, and many others — come together through one shared language: classical art.

All levels are welcome. Your place is waiting.

At the Angel Academy, the goal isn’t just technical skill — it’s training your eye to understand what you’re looking at the way a Renaissance master would.

Annigoni spent years studying Old Master paintings firsthand, figured out how they actually worked, and taught that living method to Michael John Angel. Angel built it into a structured three-year curriculum. Today this is the method being taught at the Angel Academy of Art.

At the Angel Academy of Art you don’t just learn to draw & paint - You learn to see like the Old Masters.

Annigoni recovered Renaissance painting techniques from the Old Masters and passed the method to Michael John Angel, who formalized it into the Academy’s curriculum. Senior Instructor Jered Woznicki now carries this lineage forward in the classroom.

This is not just inspiration; it is our method, the curriculum and approach to teaching, which are the result of over 45
years of research and experiment by the school’s founder, Michael John Angel.

Still life painting anchors the diploma program at Angel Academy of Art Florence because it provides the ideal environment for mastering the fundamental principles of representational painting. Unlike portrait or figure work, still life offers complete control over lighting, composition, objects, and working conditions, allowing students to focus intensely on observation and technique without the added complexity of movement or anatomy.

Through still life, students learn to organize a painting from start to finish: designing compositions, controlling value structure, mixing accurate color, handling edges, and creating convincing form and space. Everyday objects—metal, glass, fabric, wood, fruit, ceramics—each present unique visual challenges that sharpen the painter’s understanding of texture, surface, reflection, and light behavior.

Equally important, still life painting trains patience, discipline, and decision-making. Because the subject remains stable over long periods, students can work methodically, refining drawing accuracy and paint handling while developing sensitivity to subtle relationships in color and value.
