Pitti Archivio - Raf Simons 2016 Pitti Uomo

Held at the Stazione Leopolda Raf Simons Official presented his 2017 Spring Summer men’s collection on June 16th 2016.

A long time collaborator with Pitti Immagine having curated several special exhibitions (The Fourth S*x 2003, Raf Simons:Redux 2005) and published The Fourth S*x book with Pitti Immagine in 2003, Raf Simons returned for “Florence Calling: Raf Simons”

The collection featured prints curated from the estate of New York photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Mapplethorpe was a member of the countercultural artists and figures of 70s and 80s New York and took portraits of some of the revolutionaries of the cities avant-garde.

As an artist purely inspired by subcultures and counterculture movements of the past, Raf Simons used the selected images as prints across the collection.

An Installation called “Desire” Kris Van Assche, Pitti Uomo 2007. Pitti Archivio.

In 2007 Belgium designer, Kris Van Assche’s created a conceptual installation at Le Pagliere at the invitation of Pitti Immagine, named “Desire.”

100 hats hung from the ceiling lining one side of the gallery, inviting the guests to interact. And on the other 100 hundred arms holding 100 handkerchiefs. A chance to ponder and reflect and a glimpse into the mind and process of a designer at the height of his talents. An homage to a lost elegance we can certainly relate to today.

“The installation reflects on a certain nostalgia for the elegance that got lost somewhere along the way, an elegance that is appreciated whenever one gets the opportunity to witness it” said Van Assche.
