Information on the funeral services for Father Via.

Gonzaga in Florence mourns the passing of a legend, Padre Via. Here are the words inscribed to him on permanent display at Gonzaga in Florence:

"Father Anthony P. Via, S.J.

The remarkably dedicated service of Father Anthony P. Via to the Gonzaga in Florence program from 1980 to 2004, during which time he served in both Director and Acting Director roles. Under Father Via's leadership, academic course offerings were expanded, student enrollment increased, and due to his erudition and reverence for learning, an outstanding faculty was hired and sustained.

He expertly navigated the complexities of administering a university program in a foreign country. His insight was essential in the acquisition of a permanent home for the Gonzaga in Florence program in Via Giorgio La Pira. Father Via's greatest impact, however, is the value he placed in relationships. True to the Jesuit spirit of availability, his office door was always open to faculty and students, and he offered the sacrifice
of the mass daily. He thoroughly understood the responsibility placed upon him and the program by the families of the students.

It is thus with the warmest gratitude that Gonzaga University recognizes Father Via's extraordinary achievements. Accordingly, the office of the Dean is also dedicated to Father Anthony P. Via, S.J."

Che Dio benedica Padre Via

To study abroad doesn't just mean to gain knowledge of other cultures, but to become a bridge between those cultures.

Every student we welcome here in Florence will have an opportunity to open their minds and to grow as a global citizens.

That is why Gonzaga in Florence, with our Masters Program in Destination Management, has endorsed the “𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱” appeal, promoted by the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco and the Life Beyond Tourism movement.

This call to individuals and institutions worlwide to connect and share their historical and cultural heritage in the name of peace echoes our Catholic, Jesuit, and Liberal Arts mission.

Values shared by Gonzaga in Florence and the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco, values that contribute to our common goals of cultural dialogue and world peace, to which traveling and learning have always contributed.

In the image you are seeing in this post you can appreciate the artwork called “Wonder”, a sculpture that embodies the Spirit of the Heritage For Building Peace Appeal, created by Paolo Del Bianco in collaboration with several artisans from Pietrasanta (you can see it in Palazzo Coppini)
