Today, our Italian students wrapped up the month with a Talent Show, lots of laughter and, in the end, lots of hugs. Because AEF is not just a place to learn Italian. It’s also where people from different parts of the world meet, create friendships and make new memories together

We’re thrilled to welcome the first cohort of Elon University students as they kick off their internship with Lumos Pistoia Basket 2000!

From live game-day operations and fan analytics to video storytelling, these students are bridging Italian basketball with audiences back in the States while immersing themselves in local culture.

Our Study Abroad Fall Semester Elon University students spent an afternoon at Teatro del Sale exploring a different way of thinking about food, agriculture and sustainability 🍅🌿

Andrea Battiata, founder of the Orto Bioattivo project, introduced students to his bioactive garden method, sharing ideas about how we can rethink the relationship between soil, food and the environment.

The experience ended with the best part: tasting some of the products from his garden.

Learning about sustainability is even better when you can experience it, discuss it and taste it.

All with one goal: to empower you to lead by example and become a true agent of change.

A Broadway musical about Florence, performed in Florence for the first time.

In June, The Light in the Piazza was presented in the historic Cortile di Michelozzo, inside Palazzo Medici Riccardi, in a production by Accademia Europea di Firenze in collaboration with Elon University and Vietri – Irresistibly Italian.

The musical premiered on Broadway in 2005 and went on to win six Tony Awards. Set in 1950s Florence, it tells the story of an American mother and her daughter travelling through the city, where Clara falls in love with a young Italian man.

Despite being set in Florence, this was the first time the musical was officially performed in the city itself, making the occasion even more special.

The production was part of the AEF Summer Program 2026, bringing together students, faculty, artists and musicians in an experience that connected music, theatre and international education.

Our students came to Florence to study opera and, throughout the program, prepared the production before taking it to the stage inside one of the city’s most historic palaces.

Accademia Europea di Firenze is located at Via Cavour 37, one of the most central streets in Florence and the same street that leads directly to the Duomo. From the school, much of Florence’s historic centre can be explored on foot, with the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio all just a short walk away.

The location also places AEF close to important parts of the student experience, including the Galleria dell’Accademia, while public transportation, including the tramvia, is easily accessible nearby. It’s a school in the heart of Florence, where the city’s streets, museums, squares and everyday life become part of the learning experience🇮🇹🧡

Last Friday, our Fall Program students joined a Learning Excursion to Peccioli, a unique town in Tuscany where sustainability, innovation, and contemporary art come together.

Throughout the day, students explored Peccioli through a sustainability-focused activity, visited a waste treatment and recovery center in Legoli, learned more about the town’s approach to sustainability, and discovered its famous contemporary art installations and the iconic Peccioli Giants.

After lunch, the group met with Peccioli’s Mayor, Renzo Macelloni, for a conversation about sustainability, innovation, and the town’s development.

A full day of learning, exploring, and connecting with a different side of Tuscany, beyond the classroom🌿🧡

Through observation, technique, and creative practice, students explore painting while developing their own artistic expression in the heart of Florence.

As part of the Fall Program, students from Elon University in the Core Capstone course received a potted herb from a local vendor to care for throughout the semester.

Through this hands-on project, students will learn about plant care and horticulture while exploring the connection between nature, food, and everyday life in Florence. Throughout the semester, they will also have the opportunity to cook with their own herbs and discover recipes connected to local traditions and family life.
