Last September, 2021, I took the leap and opened my own piano studio. As excited as I was to open this new chapter in my career, I couldn’t help but wonder if I would make it past the first trimester…Looking back and scanning through pictures and videos of lessons and performances I accumulated throughout these very long 12 months, I’m so incredibly grateful to my beautiful students, to the parents that supported me every way, and to all the mentors that I was fortunate enough to encounter thus far. You all made this year filled with beautiful memories possible! Like Sara’s smile and page turn suggest at the end of this video, I am also ready to move forward into the next school year. Looking forward to seeing you all in September!

Many of you may not know that my partner is an artist. In the apartment we share here in Florence, each of us has their own space for creating. While I’m at the piano teaching or practicing, Mario’s upstairs in his studio working with color, perspective, light and shadow, creating beautiful interpretations of our city and poetic compositions. Mario is a true master of the Florentine tradition of painting. He began his artistic education as a goldsmith, which granted him with a remarkably refined attention to detail. As one can imagine, his work is hanging all over the apartment and much of it is in the piano studio. Visual arts and music have so much in common: harmony, tonality, movement... it’s wonderful to have such fine examples of it on hand to use as inspiration where necessary during my piano lessons, helping me in the establishment of an interdisciplinary approach that I love in teaching.

"A Musical Celebration" was held at Saint Mark's English Church this past Sunday here in Florence. The creative potential these kids express, their courage and dedication continues to amaze me, and the best part of my job is to watch them grow up and grow with music. I am so grateful to be the teacher of such musical creatures, but I remain a student in this life, and these kids have taught me more than they know! Thanks to all who came by to appreciate their music 🤩☺️♥️
