Il recente progetto "Intelligenza artificiale e linguaggi multimediali" 🎓, svolto con una 4. classe di un liceo linguistico, ha rappresentato un’esperienza concreta di come l’intelligenza artificiale generativa 🤖 e gli strumenti digitali 💻 possano arricchire la didattica delle lingue e della comunicazione multimediale.

Aspetti chiave del progetto:

- Formazione critica e creativa 🧠:
30 ore di laboratorio per introdurre gli studenti all’uso consapevole dell’IA generativa, con focus su scrittura assistita ✍️, traduzione automatica 🔁, produzione multimediale 🎥 e interpretazione 🗣️, utilizzando strumenti come Gemini, Claude, DeepL, Canva, NotebookLM ed Elevenlabs.

- Apprendimento collaborativo e pratico 🤝:
attività di gruppo su piattaforme interattive (Padlet), problem-based learning e autovalutazione digitale tramite DigComp, per sviluppare competenze trasversali di creatività, collaborazione e cittadinanza digitale 🌐.

- Produzione multilingue 🌍:
realizzazione di progetti finali tra cui videobiografie, videoguide culturali o prodotti creativi multimediali, con valutazione basata su originalità, correttezza linguistica e uso efficace delle tecnologie.

Risultati ottenuti:

- Maggiore consapevolezza critica 💡 nell’uso dell’IA e delle sue implicazioni etiche e sociali.
- Potenziamento delle competenze in scrittura, traduzione e comunicazione multilingue (inglese + seconda lingua straniera) 💼.
- Capacità di creare contenuti multimediali innovativi 💡, integrando testo, immagini e audio generati con l’IA.

Gli aspetti che hanno coinvolto e entusiasmato di più gli studenti:

- la creazione del progetto finale (perché ha permesso loro di mettere in pratica le competenze apprese, esprimere creatività e sentirsi protagonisti attivi del proprio apprendimento) 🚀
- le attività sull’interpretariato e la traduzione, che hanno offerto l’opportunità di scoprire nuovi strumenti, comprendere le dinamiche di queste professioni e sperimentare, arricchendo la consapevolezza sulle applicazioni pratiche delle lingue e dell’intelligenza artificiale 🤓

È stato un vero piacere ❤️ contribuire a questa iniziativa, che ha dimostrato come l’innovazione tecnologica possa rendere la scuola più dinamica, inclusiva e orientata al futuro 🚀, aprendo nuove opportunità di crescita per studenti e docenti.

The internet will tell you that machine translation is a process where computer software instantly translates a text from one language to another without human involvement. This is not strictly true, as humans create and improve the software. And the resulting translation product is not perfect. It may read very convincingly yet contain serious errors that a non-linguist cannot spot, so it needs checking by a linguist. It also depends on what you want to use the product for: machine translation is excellent for getting the idea of a text but proper post-editing is required if you need a reliable and accurate result, e.g. for use in a legal contract or on a marketing website. Interestingly, revising machine translation is not the same as revising human translation – the machine makes different types of mistakes, e.g. switching the subject and object around, using 5 different words for the same term, using the wrong term in a particular context, or omitting a crucial ‘not’. And for certain types of text, such as those with legal weight, human translation is still best.

At the Commission, we have developed (and are constantly improving) our own eTranslation tool, which our IT experts have ‘trained’ extensively using past in-house and other translations. Our in-house translators and external contractors use machine translation as one of the many tools in their toolbox, along with translation memories. We believe in being at the forefront of technological changes, but we also believe that translation remains a human endeavour, as AI systems do not possess an inherent understanding of ethics and cannot make decisions based on context, culture or purpose. 🔍💡🤖🌐
