inarli come facevano i nostri nonni.

Did you know that capers are actually unopened flower buds? 🌿

If we leave them on the plant, they bloom into beautiful, delicate flowers. And then comes the fruit: in Sicily, we call it cucuncio — a tiny watermelon-shaped treasure!

Nature always has something surprising to teach us. 💚

It’s Salsa Day! 🍅 Facemu i buttigli!

Literally, “we make the bottles” — our Sicilian way of saying it’s tomato preserving time!

And, as every year, it’s a family affair. Almost 100 kilos of tomatoes, two days of work, jars everywhere, sterilizing, cooking, bottling… all to make sure we have a little taste of summer waiting for us throughout the winter.

This year I made two different versions.

🍅 A ready-to-eat tomato sauce, especially for Marco, who somehow always decides what he wants to eat at the very last minute! 😅 Tomatoes cooked with basil, onion, salt, olive oil and pepper — open the jar, warm it up, and lunch is ready.

🍅 And the traditional plain tomato passata, preserved simply so that we can cook and season it however we like during the winter.

Almost 100 kilos of tomatoes. Two full days of work. A lot of washing, chopping, cooking, sterilizing and bottling. And yes… a lot of tiredness!

But when I look at all those jars lined up, there’s also that wonderful feeling of knowing exactly what we’ll be eating this winter: something genuine, homemade, seasonal and prepared by our own hands.

Summer in a jar, ready for winter. ❤️🍅

What if one of the memories you take home from Sicily was something you made with your own hands? 🌿

At Donna Nnì, our aromatic herbs are not only meant to be smelled, touched and picked.

They can become part of something you create.

Join me for a natural soap-making experience, where we’ll use extra virgin olive oil, aromatic herbs and the scents of our Sicilian countryside to discover the traditional art of soap making.

A little time to slow down, work with your hands and transform simple, natural ingredients into something special.

A small piece of Donna Nnì to remember the experience. 💛🌿

Come to Donna Nnì. Pick, create, learn.

Ferragosto at Donna Nnì ☀️🌿

Today is Ferragosto, the heart of the Italian summer.

Not everyone knows that its roots go all the way back to Ancient Rome, to the Feriae Augusti — a time of rest and celebration after the hard work of the agricultural season. Centuries later, August 15th also became the Catholic feast of the Assumption.

Today, Ferragosto means family, beaches, long lunches and slowing down.

But this year, mine feels a little different.

For the past few days, we have actually been living at Donna Nnì. And when you live in the countryside rather than simply visit it, everything changes.

You wake up with it and follow its rhythms.

Figs to pick and dry, tomatoes drying under the August sun, tomato preserves to prepare for winter, herbs to gather, lavender to prune so it can grow back stronger next year, soaps to make, jars to fill, things to clean, cook and put away.

And then there are friends and family stopping by, turning ordinary days into long conversations, shared meals and unexpected moments around the table.

In between all of this, Cici and Cocò, Artù following us around, dirty hands, full baskets and that beautiful kind of chaos that belongs to country life.

Maybe this is my Ferragosto this year: not really stopping, but simply living the countryside fully.

And somehow, that feels like a celebration too.

Buon Ferragosto from Donna Nnì. ☀️🍅🍋🌿

Here’s my life over the last week. 🤍

Sometimes it’s hard to describe my life, because it’s anything but ordinary.

Over the past few days, we’ve enjoyed some time at our little house by the sea. But, as always, life doesn’t stop there. A few cooking classes, some food tours, time with wonderful guests, caring for Donna Nnì, harvesting from the garden, and making homemade preserves… yes, even peeling tomatoes the old-fashioned way.

I’m also making great progress planning my November trip to the United States, and it’s all starting to come together. I’ll be sharing more details with you over the next few days, and I can’t wait.

And of course, there are Cici and Cocò, always on patrol around the countryside, endlessly curious and convinced that every rustling leaf might be a lizard.

Looking at these moments together reminds me how grateful I am for this life. It’s full, sometimes tiring, often unpredictable, but deeply real.

Many people tell me that my social media feels authentic. The truth is… it is. When my guests and friends come to visit, they discover that what I share online is exactly how we live every day.

This is our version of the Italian slow lifestyle: welcoming people into our world, sharing Sicily, growing our own food, cooking, working with our hands, taking care of what we love, and making space to enjoy the present.

I’m grateful for all of it. Because in the end, this isn’t content.

It’s simply our life. 🇮🇹💛

I’m truly moved.

There are gifts that simply cannot be bought.

Our dear friend Giuliana spent a week with us, and quietly, while she was here in our home, she began creating this beautiful drawing.

This morning, she surprised us by giving us this incredible piece of art.

It isn’t just a drawing—it’s the story of what she saw with her eyes and felt with her heart: our family, Artù, Donna Nnì, Sicily, the hands that knead dough, the trees, the land, and all the love we try to pour into everything we do.

It touches me deeply to know that someone was able to see the soul of this place so clearly and transform it into art.

Thank you, Juliana Musso Giuliana. We will treasure this gift forever. ❤️

“The most beautiful gift is when someone sees your soul and turns it into art.” 💛

🌿 My very first oregano harvest at Donna Nnì. 💚

This year, our little herb garden gave me a truly special gift: our very first oregano harvest.

Until now, it was always my father who harvested oregano from his countryside garden. The scent of freshly picked oregano brings me back to the simple, timeless traditions of my family—knowledge and gestures passed down from one generation to the next.

That is why this harvest means so much more to me. It feels like a beautiful passing of the torch, and I couldn’t be more grateful or emotional.

In this reel, I’ll show you how I harvested the oregano and tied it into small bundles that will now be dried naturally in the shade, just as it has always been done.

Some traditions don’t need to change—they simply deserve to live on. 🌿💛
