Wrap-up day for the LAC research group! 🎓✨

Today our 6 PhD researchers—Martina, Ludovica, Francesca, Manuel, Alessandra, and Tommaso (joining live from his research stay in Ljubljana! 🇸🇮)—presented their annual end-of-year progress.

It was a great session of constructive feedback and discussions about the future of their projects. So proud of their hard work! 🚀

Huge congratulations to Francesca Cherchi, our 1st-year PhD student, who received the “Fondo Silvia” Award for her Master’s thesis on the impact of microplastics in our environment! 🎓🌍💧

A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Ortalli and the Fondazione Comasca for this €10,000 grant! This wonderful support provides vital financial aid to help passionate young researchers pursue their dreams and drive real change. 🙏💙

🎉 GREAT DAYS FOR OUR GROUP! 🏆

A huge congratulations to our own Davide Spanu for receiving the Young Researcher Award at the ###II SCI National Congress of Analytical Chemistry, held in the beautiful city of Venice! 👏✨
Davide had the honor of opening the conference with a keynote lecture on elemental speciation ⚛️, sharing his research with the Italian analytical chemistry community.

Our group was also proudly represented by:
📊 Prof. Monticelli, presenting on isotope ratio analysis
📈 Prof. Giussani, discussing error in multivariate analysis

Beyond the science, conferences like these are always a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends, meet inspiring colleagues, exchange ideas, and build new collaborations. 🤝✨

We are incredibly proud of this achievement and grateful to be part of such a vibrant scientific community.

What an intense week for our PhD students!
Ludovica, Alessandra and Tommaso took part in exciting conferences and school! 💥

Tommaso and Alessandra joined CHESS2026 in Bari 🇮🇹, a school dedicated to advanced spectroscopies and surface analysis.
It was a great chance to meet fellow PhD students and young researchers, opening up new possibilities for networking 🤝.
🏆Tommaso also presented a poster on tracking trace metals in biofouled plastics using LA‑ICP‑MS — and proudly won the Best Poster Award!!!🏆

Meanwhile, Ludovica attended SafePlastChem2026, a conference rich in discussions on plastics and their environmental challenges 🌍.
She presented her research on the interaction between plastics and heavy metals, exploring adsorption and leaching processes.
✨An inspiring experience full of new meetings and valuable insights for her future work ✨.

When the PhD life gets exciting, it really shows 💫
