Insects are the unsung architects of our natural world, serving as the foundational pillars for global ecosystem stability. Beyond their well-known roles as pollinators, they act as primary decomposers, nutrient recyclers, and a critical food source for countless species.

When we integrate regenerative education into this context, we are shifting from simply studying biology and ecosystems to actively restoring life. This pedagogical approach thrives on experiential learning; students can engage in practical work like constructing "insect hotels," restoring native hedgerows, or managing composting systems.

This week our Eco-Explorers worked together to construct an insect hotel to place in the outdoor area of the school and support insect populations in the area 🦋😍

🪲🦋 Exploring Mini Beasts 🦋🪲

This week the Eco-Explorers of (1° year elementary) moved into phase two of the program...investigating Mini-bessts!

we spent a wonderful (bit windy) afternoon outdoors looking for spring insects, observing their habitats, sketching them and noting bod y parts and colours.

They worked as a team, looking under logs, investigating with magnifying glasses and being very brave!

A wonderful opportunity to practice counting in English and learning new nouns (beetle, spider, worm, firefly) as we explored our natural park.

🎨 L’arte nella Preistoria… rivive nel nostro laboratorio!

Molto tempo fa, prima della scrittura, gli esseri umani vivevano una vita difficile. Eppure non pensavano solo a sopravvivere: sentivano il bisogno di esprimersi. È proprio da qui che nasce l’arte preistorica.

Partendo da questa riflessione, nella Scuola nel Parco abbiamo realizzato un laboratorio d’arte in sinergia con l’ora di storia della classe terza. I bambini si sono messi nei panni degli uomini preistorici, sperimentando colori naturali, segni e tecniche antiche.

Perché è così importante?
Perché capire attraverso il fare rende l’apprendimento più profondo e significativo. Attraverso l’attività espressiva, i bambini non solo apprendono contenuti storici, ma sviluppano creatività, immaginazione e capacità di comunicare emozioni.

Proprio come gli uomini della Preistoria, anche noi abbiamo scoperto che l’arte è un linguaggio universale, capace di raccontare, unire e dare forma ai pensieri.

🖐️ Imparare facendo… è un’esperienza che lascia il segno!

A very British tradition! Pancake day at Scuola Nel Parco this week! The first and second years learnt about fire safety and pancake cooking!

Practical skills, risk assessment, patience, new flavours, coordination and science.

🏺 Dalla Terra alla Storia: 5000 anni in un solo gesto.
Oggi alla Scuola nel Parco di Chiusa di Pesio🌳🍁, abbiamo posato le penne.✍️
Ci siamo sporcati le mani con l’argilla, abbiamo impugnato semplici stecchini e abbiamo lasciato che il tempo tornasse indietro fino all’antica Mesopotamia. 🌍
Incidere la scrittura cuneiforme non è stato solo un esercizio di stile, ma un modo per capire come l’umanità ha iniziato a dare voce ai propri pensieri. Dalla polvere ai simboli, dai Sumeri a noi.
Non serve l’alta tecnologia per creare qualcosa di eterno. A volte basta un po’ di terra, un legnetto e la voglia di scoprire da dove veniamo. 🌱❤️

❄️🌍🌌 La sistema solare 🌌🌍❄️

The fifth year students have been learning about the sun and its solar system this month. On Friday, we took advantage of the snow to create a scaled model of the 8 planets.

After some basic maths, the kids had to organise themselves and create the planets (in order) to a relatively accurate scaling to represent the difference in size between them all.

A fantastic hands-on and engaging activity that required communication, teamwork, creativity and attention to detail.

🦊🐀🪱 Food chain game 🪱🐀🦊

The third year students all enjoyed learning about food webs and the nutrient cycle today!

After discussing the movement of nutrients from plant to herbivore/omnivore to carnivore and finally how the (incredibly important) decomposers complete the cycle, turning organic matter into usable nutrients for plants.

The game is a fun and energetic play on the classic 'rock-paper-scissors' game, where students had to pick an animal, and then determine if they are the prey or predator. At which point the game turns into tag...
prey that gets tagged switches teams.

💪💪 BATTLE ROPE 💪💪

The third and fourth year students went into battle today in our outdoor fitness lesson.

In this game of strength, coordination and endurance, the kids had to push and pull their way over the snow/ice/mud to grab their coloured ball.

A great game that pushed the kids persistence and fitness, followed with a game of Chaos-dodgeball which tested reaction speed, agility and aerobic fitness.
