Its been great to see so much media coverage of soil related issues recently, especially with World Earth Day this week.
This article is well informed and highlights a subject that is of primary importance in deciding which farming and land management techniques we trial and implement here at Arbory.
One of our main drivers at our organic farm is soil microbial diversity, as we believe it is pivotal in restoring and improving agricultural land so our soils can be productive for future generations.

As requested here is a short video about the wild asparagus plant... In our experience it grows on poor sandy soils and likes the dappled shade of trees and larger shrubs.

A quick walk round some of our paths near the olive grove to collect wild asparagus. I call it the 'wild asparagus trail' and after 3 years living here I know the good spots!!

Wild asparagus can be a little bitter, but taste pretty good steamed and drizzled with olive oil, salt and lemon.

It's all about the olive tree here in Italy today 😍... This big old beauty sits majestic and strong infront of our house. It's estimated to be roughly 120 years old... I wonder what stories it would tell us if it could?

*Chemical Free Vineyard Management*

We've been busy tending to the vineyard. We have sangiovese vines and produce an artisan organic sulfite free wine, using traditional methods.

I pruned the vines back in January and here we are yesterday laying fresh woodchip around the vines to help improve the soil.

This is our beautiful Emilia Romagna, such a diverse landscape with something new to marvel at on every corner.

We love exploring local ‘borghi’ when restrictions allow.

Our 'no dig' beds are coming along well. Every year they slowly expand. Year 1 we had just one veg patch, year two we added two more, and this year we are up to 5 different veg patch areas....they seem to spring up wherever we have a vacant spot!

Here are some photos of what we've been up to in the olive grove veg patch area... It's a sheltered south facing spot and was very productive last year, so giving them a freshen up....
