The first sewing holiday in our new home has just finished. Two lovely ladies came along (their 3rd sewing holiday with me) and made some gorgeous outfits for their grandchildren. They spent a lot of time in my studio, relaxed together in their apartment, went to the local market, had a day out to Orvieto, came to us for supper one evening, and we all went out for pizza in our local bar. So, quite a busy week!
I have 8 sewing holidays booked in this year, but there are still a few weeks free - if anyone is interested in booking, just contact me.

We’ve now finished most of the work in our guest apartment and studio - we just need to pack away the items in my textiles studio and in the kitchen, and hang pictures in the 3rd bedroom and the sitting room. The other two bedrooms - “Goldwork” and “Trapunto” - are 95% finished - I need to add a bookshelf in each, I think. Sorry about the lack of bedding - it’s all still packed away, but I thought you’d like to see how things are looking.

My new textile studio is almost finished - it just needs furnishing, and I’m hoping to do that in the next few days. The building work in our guest apartment is done, so we now have 3 en-suite bedrooms. We’ve decorated and part-furnished two of them, the 3rd one is storing all my textiles boxes, so will have to be done last! This weekend we’re decorating the sitting room…then there’s just the kitchen to fit!

Apologies for not updating for so long…there’s a lot going on, getting ready for this year’s Textile Holidays! Two of the bathrooms in our 3 bed/3 bath guest apartment are now completed, apart from decorating. There’s a little more work to do, then it’s painting and furnishing time. As for the brand new textile studio…it looks as if most of the work will be finished this week. Then the staircase and side windows will be installed, and we can fit the flooring…and I can start moving in! If you want to follow the progress, I update far more often on Instagram.

Happy Christmas from Textile Holidays Italy. I hope you all find something of what you want in the next few days, be it time with a loved one, with family, with friends, or time alone to reflect, to remember, to plan. For me, this year it will be a time to rest and relax, to drink Prosecco, eat cheese, and plan. I’ll post news of our re-opening in the new property between now and the New Year. I’m unlikely to update my website during that time - apologies! - it really has been a busy few months! 🎄🥂

We’ve started renovations on our guest apartment. I say “we”, but obviously I mean the builder has! We’re creating 2 en-suite bedrooms and a 3rd bedroom with private bathroom though that might become an en-suite too. We’re reconfiguring the two sitting rooms/kitchens to create a large kitchen dining room and separate large sitting room. There will be a textile studio in the basement - which is actually above ground - so the builder is also making a staircase from the apartment to the studio. It’s at the scary stage, but he works very fast and I know we’ll soon be decorating and furnishing!

I had no time at all to do anything creative from late May until late July… In the last 10 days though, whilst recovering from the stresses of packing and moving, I e been stitching this Jacobean Crewelwork embroidery. It’s not my design, it’s a kit - I’ll add the designer name in a separate post - so ideal for times like this when you just want to focus on stitching rather than sourcing materials and planning designs. I’ve found it so therapeutic! I’ve been working my way through various traditional embroidery techniques over the last year because I intend to start offering embroidery retreats and workshops.

I have some news…!
Since moving to Umbria we’ve had so many enquiries about my Textile Holidays but have had to turn down them down because, lovely as our house was, it just wasn’t large enough. We had 2 guest rooms, and ideally want 4/5 guest rooms. So….in a shockingly short space of time - and sort of out of the blue - we sold our home! We are buying a gorgeous house just 5km away, and are currently living in one of the guest apartments there, while the purchase goes through. It’s both exciting and nerve-wracking! I’m not sure yet when we’ll re-open, and we’ll still run holidays for 1-2 guests as well as for more, so apologies to anyone who previously enquired about autumn holidays. We’ll be up and running by 2025….maybe even later this year with a temporary studio! Here are some photos taken from the terrace of the guest apartment and a couple in the olive grove. The views, again, look out over Umbria and Tuscany, including Lake Chiusi, and Chiusi town.
