From 3 to 8 May 2022 the third, and final, Meeting of Disarty Project has been held in Bataan, Batac in the Philippines.

The meeting has been organized and coordinated by BTG Philippines in collaboration with delegations of 4 partner countries (Italy / RAS Foundation and Unipegaso; Greece / Action Synergy; Mexico / IIC-MEX and Philippines / BTG Philippines) and some local organizations and the Technology University of Philippines.

More than 50 people between youth workers and staff members participated in the meeting.

The meeting program scheduled both training and field work.

We developed the training course on the topic of the project (community based tourism, disaster recovery, youth-led initiatives, social entrepreneurship) and practical work in the local community in Bataan Batac and to the indigenous community affected by typhoon and monsoon last year.

Finally, a project work involving 3 groups has been organised to develop 3 project proposals with a final contest to select the best proposal which will receive a grant of 30.000 Php.

To all the participants congratulations for the amazing work made, for the enthusiasm, the passion and the commitment in all meetings stages.

In the end, after 2 years, Disarty project is going to arrive in Philippines!

From Naples, Italy to Jalpan de Serra, Mexico and now to Bataan, Philippines!

Disarty‘s 3rd and last International Capacity Building Meeting will be held in Bagac, Bataan, Philippines on May 3-8, 2022.

The event aims to train international and local youth groups and actors to work together in writing and pitching proposals to local stakeholders and policymakers.

Proposals should be community based, youth-led and should have a Social Entrepreneurship factor.

A seed money amounting to P30,000 will be granted to the winning proposal and will be monitored by BTG Philippines.

The DisArTY Project is back!

In the last weeks we are implementing the e-learning course with youth workers from Italy, Greece, Mexico and Philippines and we are so happy that young people from other countries, especially Latin America, are joining the course.

We are analyzing topical issues as Community Based Tourism, restoring a place after a natural disaster, Policies, Strategies Youth-led, Social Entrepreunership and Tourism Marketing.

The practical work is about the Island of Bohol (Philippines), hardly affected by a typhoon in December, the place where we will implement the final Transnational Meeting of the Project and where we hope to provide a contribution through our project!

Wha about Tourism and Entrepreunership for the community after a disaster?

Here an example from Philippines!

The COVID-19 placed the life of tourism and entrepreneurship industries into a critical pace where consumers, travelers, businessmen, and even the government agonized. As described in the Life Blood Theory, the government is a necessity, and it cannot continue without the means to pay its expenses. Both the tourism and entrepreneurship industries are integral parts of the society for they stipulate taxes that are considered as the lifeblood of a government.

"The effects of natural disasters on international tourism: A global analysis"

Tourism is shaped by a wide range of factors and forces, including exogenous ones that have no direct link with the tourism sector. Natural disasters and unexpected events are prime examples of such determining factors, as they have profound effects on individuals and society, and as a result have the potential to affect tourism flows considerably.

Several theoretical arguments exist why natural disasters and unexpected events could influence tourist destination choices. However, empirical research to confirm the nature and extent of impacts of disasters on tourism is lacking. To address this gap, this paper incorporates a dataset on natural and man-made disaster events into a model of international tourism flows to evaluate the effect of different types of disasters on international arrivals at the national level. Findings provide evidence that the occurrence of different types of event change tourist flows to varying degrees. Although in some cases a positive effect is estimated, in general the impacts are negative, resulting in reduced tourist arrivals following an event. Understanding the relationship between disaster events and tourism is helpful for destination managers who make critical decisions in relation to recovery, reconstruction and marketing.

DisArTY Is a project whose main axis is cooperation to reestablish economies, communities and societies through community tourism; a noble and competitive type of tourism developed in various parts of the world.

Community based tourism is a type of tourism in which local residents invite tourists to visit their communities and appreciate it in a different way; living particular experiences of the community from daily activities to knowing the past and origin of its traditions.

The residents earn income as tourist guides, entrepreneurs, service and produce providers, and employees. A part of this tourist income is set aside for projects which provide benefits to the community and impact in the economy and restoration.

Community based tourism enables the tourist to discover local habitats and wildlife, celebrate and respect traditional cultures, rituals and wisdom.

Local gastronomy, handicraft workshops, tours of small towns, sale of artisan products and traditional experiences of particular customs are some of the examples that we can review about community tourism.

After long time the DisArTY Team is glad to announce the starting of a new phase of the project!

Do you remember what's the DisArTY Project?

The DisArTY project aims at promoting the cooperation between Europe, Latin America and Asia in the field of youth and explore the potential of youth work in order to increase social entrepreneurship and employability of the young people in the field of community based tourism which represents a great potential for them and an important tool for restoring the areas damaged by natural disaster.

Of course, as the covid-19 affected the world, also the pandemics by providing social, health, economic crisis can be considered a "disaster" in a more open point of view.

It is essential to develop strategies that guarantee countries affected by disasters the recovery of their human activity, for this reason this project it will incentive to community-based tourism youth-led because this involves the communities that control, manage and develop their own tourism industry and represents a sector in which specially young people have an important role to play as the most dynamic and innovative part of this field.

The DisArTY Project is coming in Mexico!

From 5 to 9 November 2019 the 2nd Transnational Meeting of DisArTY Project will be held in Jalpan de Serra (Queretaro).

Youth Workers and Staff Members from México, Italy, Greece and Philippines will meet in order to discuss the topic of community based tourism, the strategies aimed at restoring areas affected by disaster and the development of youth led initiatives.

The DisArTY Project is co-funded by EACEA jn the framework of the action "capacity building in the field of youth"

And that's a wrap! The first transnational meeting of the DisArTY Project is officially over. Last night we had our closing ceremony, where our youth workers and staff members received certificates for their outstanding work. It's not a goodbye, but a see you later. We can't wait to meet again in Mexico!

DisArTY Team takes on Napoli! Day 5 consisted of a lovely day trip to the city center of Napoli. Our group was guided by our very own Antonio Giattini, who taught us about the history and culture of Naples. It was a great way to spend our last day together as a team.

Day 4's cultural night was definitely a success...see for yourself! Each nationality shared food from their home country, allowing everyone to taste a bit of each other's cultures. It was an evening filled with laughter and new memories...and a lot of full, smiling people!

Day 4! Today we were honored to receive a warm welcome on behalf of the Mayor of Castellammare di Stabia, as well as from Nicola di Lorenzo, Managing Director of the Restoring Ancient Stabiae Foundation. We listened to many intriguing presentations on tourism and marketing strategies, and our youth workers were able to interact with and ask questions to the presenters. This morning was a great educational opportunity for our youth workers and all those involved in the DisArTY Project.
