Pari Center

Pari Center The Pari Center was created 20 years ago by the late F.David Peat and Maureen Doolan as congenial location where people can think, learn and meet together.

Welcome to the Pari Center page where we’ll give you news about Pari and the Center’s activities, seminars and meetings. The Center was created in 2000 after F. David Peat and Maureen Doolan had moved to this beautiful medieval hilltop village. We’re located in the Palazzo at the highest point in the village. Pari itself is surrounded by woods filled with wild boar, pheasants, hare and al

l manner of wild game. Over the years we have had many visitors to the Center, artists, scientists, composers, writers, film makers, philosophers, and those who simply want to take time out to think. We have hosted a range of conferences on everything from economics and the environment, the future of publishing to the relationship between science and religion. Our seminars have been attended by people from all over the world. Those who visit Pari enjoy the gourmet food, traditional dishes cooked by the local women.

What does it mean to live in a universe where meaning, consciousness, and cosmology are deeply intertwined?

This short conversation offers a glimpse into the spirit of Beyond Bohm 2026 – Part 1: Meaning / Cosmology / Poetics, an online series exploring the living legacy of David Bohm through dialogue, embodied inquiry, philosophy, cosmology, and the creative arts.

Over three weekends in July, Lee Nichol, Bruce Alderman, Brian Swimme, John Vervaeke, Hester Reeve, Richard Burg, and others will explore how Bohm's vision can help us rethink meaning, perception, and our place in an unfolding universe.
Watch the video below, then join us for six live online sessions (all with Q&A and recordings available).

F. DAVID PEAT (April 18, 1938 - June 6, 2017)

Today is the ninth anniversary of F. David Peat’s death. Ten days ago, we completed an event here in Pari Paths to Knowing Consciousness and Reality: From the Indigenous to the Academic. David would have loved to be present. He was certainly a Western academic, but he also had a great love and respect for Indigenous people and their ways of knowing and would have been overjoyed to be partaking in the talks, conversations, ceremonies and dreamwork—as well as the meals and dancing, the bonfire, the music and theatre that took place in the evenings. We continue to hold that special space you created in Pari! RIP David.

The Native Americans provided me with a mirror with which to see my own culture. I began to see that things I’d taken for granted and believed were inevitably true were just cultural assumptions. So you begin to look at things in a very fresh way. That thing that we are saying is inevitable—that it must be—is in fact an assumption that we have made about the world and the world may not be like that at all. Ideas of space and time are constructs and they’ve gripped us and maybe things aren’t quite like that. The impact of Native American concepts and stories was to see my world as a construct and that was a great gift.
