The ERHR IP, promoted by the School of Law of the University of Cagliari, deals with the study of human rights in an international and, at the same time, a national perspective. Europe is a melting pot of countries and peoples with different cultures and languages. Therefore, it seems necessary to base the creation of a union of these peoples on the respect of the differences and identities consti
tuting the EU. In the words of the Preamble to the Charter, the European Union is founded on the values of human dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity and on the principles of democracy and respect of law. Consequently, at the heart of the activities of the Union is the aim at creating an area of freedom, security and justice. So it has to be for the activities of each individual country member of the EU. However, the recent history shows that, despite all the good intentions and all the words spoken and written in the last five decades after WW2, there is still a lot to do in the field of human rights. This IP aims at contributing to the study of human rights and the legislation on the field through the sharing of regional experiences with all the countries involved in the project. Four countries will give a contribution to the course with their particular experiences: Italy, United Kingdom, Germany and Spain. Teachers from each university will held lectures on the following subjects:
1. Introduction to the human rights system: the UN and the EU;
2. Civil and political rights: religion, expression, self determination;
3. Social and economic rights: work, healthcare, education;
4. Business and human rights: the ultimate challenge for human rights;
5. Human rights and terrorism: an endless war? The course is divided in two sections, the first of which is made of lectures on the subjects above from an international perspective; whilst the second one treats the same subjects from a regional perspective.
