A lot has changed since the first time we stepped into the arena at Road to the Horse.

Over ten years ago, as a competitor, starting a c**t that many of you now know as Swampy. Since then we’ve made the trip back every year, and it’s become one of the highlights of the season.

This year Dan James will be back in the arena again, hosting, demonstrating, and putting together a performance we’ve been working on that we’re pretty excited about. We're also excited to have Dan Steers here with us for this event!

We’ll have our booth set up all weekend with training equipment, materials, and a few new things we’re bringing out for the first time.

Chief Running Antelope
Lakóta name: Tȟatȟóka Íŋyaŋke
Born: ca. 1821, near the Grand River (South Dakota)
Died: ca. 1896, Dakota Territory
A respected Huŋkpapȟa principal chief, Running Antelope was one of four key leaders who advised Sitting Bull during the Plains Indian Wars. Believing that strategic compromise could protect his people, he eventually distanced himself from Sitting Bull—illustrating the complex leadership choices American Indian leaders faced in a time of upheaval.
💵 A remarkable legacy: Running Antelope is believed to be one of the only American Indians depicted on U.S. paper currency. The Series 1899 $5 Silver Certificate featured his portrait—though controversy followed when the engraver replaced his traditional Sioux headdress with a Pawnee-style headdress because the original was too tall for the design.

The Knowing Eye

It's been ten years since he caught his ride. But his words and spirit remain, still guiding and teaching us to this day.
