Protein aggregation is a common biological phenomenon, observed in different physiological and pathological conditions. Decreased protein solubility and a tendency to aggregate is also observed during physiological aging but the causes are currently unknown.

Intracellular protein aggregation is a hallmark of different pathological conditions. Hollow fiber flow field-flow fractionation, coupled with multiangle light scattering, can be used to separate and biophysically characterize cellular aggregates.
