It is never easy to say good-bye.
Especially, when you have worked closely with such a diligent and inspiring collective like this one over two years.

We have created amazing project results, each challenging how we communicate about climate change and enriching the knowledge about floods and adaptation tools.

But most of all, we have collectively managed to bring together an audience across many different countries and generations and forge a great network of Flood Stoppers.

Instead, we would like to say thank you.

Thank you to our partners, Area Europa scarl, The Right Street Digital, SpostaMenti Associazione, Univerza v Mariboru, Low Carbon Economy, Infinitivity Design Labs, Ελληνογαλλική Σχολή Saint Joseph Πεύκης, and Περιφερειακό Λύκειο Λιβαδιών for your commitment and all the work you put into this project.

Thank you to all the students that have participated in our final Brussels event and showcased your fantastic presentations and tools you’ve prepared.

And thank you to all that have followed our two-year-long journey.

We wish you the happiest of holidays and hope that you will continue to follow and use our project results in the years to come.

Happy Holidays!

Your Flood Stopping

The final day of the Brussels event was bittersweet.
In the morning, while the students went sightseeing, the partners gathered for the final partner meeting.

Around noon, both the partners and students assembled to talk about the impact of the Flood Stopping project and what they had learnt through the two years of the project.

And while more needs to be done to raise awareness over adaptation and flood impacts, we are glad to have made the first step to do so.

The afternoon of the second day continued with more fantastic examples of flood adaptation tools and techniques.

The students from Ελληνογαλλική Σχολή Saint Joseph Πεύκης had:

💧 prepared an emotional and intriguing podcast episode about the interviewee’s experience with floods.
💧 made comprehensive posters about climate change causes and what to do before, during, and after floods.
💧 created an educational video about what NOT to do before an incoming flood.
💧 prepared a useful flood emergency toolkit.
💧 showcased why community engagement is crucial when adopting flood management tools and techniques.
💧 performed a play that emphasised how floods can progress and subside.

On the second day of our meet, we got to listen to and see the amazing presentations that the students learnt about flood risk management using various tools.

First up were the students from Livadia Regional Lyceum who presented:

💧 a detailed analysis of what could have been done better during the Paphos floods, based on research and an engaging, first-hand experience interview.
💧 how simple plants like reeds can be used as a nature-based solution for flood prevention.
💧 how they made a detailed poster about what to do in case of flooding.
💧 mapping of potential flooding issues around their school and their adaptation plan.
💧 an analysis of rainfall increases in Larnaca and how to protect one’s home.

🌊🎓 What an enlightening day of learning!

The Flood Stopping Multiplier Event on December 16th, hosted by our partner Univerza v Mariboru, was a huge success. Attendees had the opportunity to dive deep into the "Flood Stopping" project and explore its innovative tools and strategies for managing flood risks.

The event was not only informative but also fostered a collaborative environment for all attendees to discuss key strategies and connect with experts dedicated to flood risk management and climate resilience.

The first day of the three-day meeting continued with the students from our partner schools, Saint Joseph Greek-French High School (Ελληνογαλλική Σχολή Saint Joseph Πεύκης ) from Greece, and Livadia Regional Lyceum (Περιφερειακό Λύκειο Λιβαδιών ) from Cyprus, joining us in the Brussels office of our partner, The Right Street Digital.

Here, they had the pleasure to have our partners, Area Europa scarl, SpostaMenti Associazione, Univerza v Mariboru, Lowcarboneconomy, Infinitivity Design Labs, and The Right Street Digital, present what they did during the past two years of the Flood Stopping Project.

They also got to know better the behind-the-scenes process of us creating the beloved and useful project results, like podcasts, the manual, animations, community mapping, and the app.

Earlier this month, our partner, The Right Street, organised and hosted an engaging three-day event in Brussels.

At this event, we focused on sharing what we had learnt collectively over the past two years about climate change and flood risk management and why EU projects like Flood Stopping are crucial.

On the morning of December 11th, Lorenzo Marchese from The Right Street organised an event titled “How to Communicate about Climate Change.”

Along with a panel of experts, including Gianluca Corzani from Area Europa scarl, he presented how vital it is to think about how we present these crucial topics understandably and transparently.
