"Maurizio (Mao) Fusina, a graduate in architecture, decided after completing his degree that he would never build a house, but rather foster relationships between people, and between people and the things around them. As a designer of wooden toys and a planner of classrooms and outdoor learning spaces, he has been involved in the ‘Senza Zaino’ movement for several years, contributing his expertise in architecture and the design of new learning spaces. Designing and exploring environments capable of fostering new experiences is the principle that inspires his collaboration with Spazio Arredo. In the ‘House of Transformations’ at the Masih nursery school in Treviglio, the children can become someone different from their usual selves; the space is flexible and easily adaptable. Is it possible to invent and build a world starting from a simple solid shape like a cube? Thanks to its elementary form, C-oso succeeds brilliantly. Il Villaggio, the new 0-6 Educational Centre for the Municipality of Caerano di San Marco (TV), welcomes children from birth to six years of age, ensuring a unique continuum of care. The area dedicated to older children (roughly aged 3 to 5) is designed as a real village. The traditional classrooms give way to ‘houses’, spaces without physical barriers that open directly onto the multi-purpose hall, the large village square which is the beating heart of the entire Centre.
