Have you ever finished a conversation in English and immediately started thinking about everything you got “wrong”?

The word you couldn’t remember. The tense you weren’t sure about. That sentence you could have said better.

But… did the other person understand you? Did you understand them? Did you have a chat, share a story, have a laugh, find out something about each other?

Then that conversation worked. And that matters.

It doesn’t mean we stop working on grammar, pronunciation or vocabulary. Of course we want your English to improve. But you don’t need to wait for perfect English before you start using the English you already have.

Have the conversation. We can refine the English as we go.

Every time we feel stuck, our first instinct is often to look for something new.

A new app, a new course, a new book. But more often than not, that’s not what makes the difference.

I’ve seen students make incredible progress with the same book, the same podcast, or the same short text... simply because they learnt how to work with it differently. Sometimes, one paragraph is enough to notice new vocabulary, a grammar pattern or a useful expression.

The resource isn’t always the problem. Sometimes we just need to slow down and learn how to get more out of what we already have.

What are you already interested in?

Cooking? Photography? Gardening? Running? Interior design? Maybe even restoring old furniture like me.

Now try exploring that same interest in English. Watch a YouTube tutorial. Follow someone who talks about it. Read an article. Pick up a book. Listen to a podcast.

Not because you need another way to study English, but because you’re already curious about what’s being said.

And that’s the point. English doesn’t always have to be the thing you’re learning. Sometimes, it can simply be the language you use to learn about something else.

And I think that’s a much more natural way to make English part of your life.

So… what’s your thing?

We often feel like we need to learn more vocabulary. But what if the goal wasn’t to learn more... What if it was to remember more?

The words and expressions that stay with us are rarely the ones we memorised from a list. They’re the ones we came across in a story. The ones we heard in a conversation. The ones that made us smile, laugh or stop for a second and think, “Oh, that’s a nice way to say it.”

That’s why I love using books and real-life content in my lessons. Because when English comes with a context, it’s no longer just another word to remember. It becomes something you recognise, understand, and eventually make your own.

What’s one English word or expression you’ve never forgotten because of where you learnt it?

What’s the last English expression you learnt that has actually stayed with you?

This is exactly what I mean when I talk about noticing English.

We weren’t looking for these examples. They weren’t part of a grammar exercise. They just happened to be there, in the story we were reading. And we stopped.

We noticed something that sounded different from Italian. We asked why a particular pronoun was being used. We got curious.

That’s where so much learning can happen. You don’t have to analyse every sentence or turn every page into a lesson. In fact, I wouldn’t want you to. But every now and then, stop when something catches your attention. Ask yourself: Why did they say it like that? Could I use this? Have I seen this before?

Sometimes the best learning moments are the ones you weren’t looking for.

That’s the kind of reading I want my students to learn to do.

Not every quote needs to be remembered word for word.

Sometimes you only remember the message.

And that’s when you’d say “something along the lines of…”

Another chunk worth keeping in your back pocket.

People often think I teach English.

And yes, I do… but that’s not really the whole point.

What I actually care about is helping people become more confident, more independent in the way they learn.
Showing them how to learn from books. How to notice grammar instead of trying to memorise endless rules. How to use listening in a way that actually makes a difference. How to build a routine they can stick to, even when life gets busy.

Because I don’t think there’s one perfect way to learn English. I think there’s a way that works for you.

And if my content can help you find that, then I’m doing what I wanted to do.

Sometimes the most useful English isn’t a long list of new words. It’s one expression that you can actually imagine yourself using.

In one of my lessons, we came across “go for a ride” while reading. We stopped, talked about it, imagined different situations where we could use it… and suddenly it wasn’t just another phrase to memorise anymore.

That’s one of the reasons I love using books in my lessons. They’re full of real English, used in real contexts. And when you notice expressions this way, they’re much easier to remember.

What’s the last English expression you learnt that has actually stayed with you?
